Hello everyone,

I have a question which might be stupid but I'm about to freak out because my husband just found out that we have 8 weeks left here so I wanted to get the 2nd packet prepared even though we are not approved for the petition.

Do I need to submit the originals and certified documents like police certificate and birth certificates for the DS 230 or are just certified documents okay?

IR1/CR1 Visa - DCF at London Embassy

April 16, 2013: Mailed out I-130

April 18, 2013: Date Petition filed
May 13, 2013: APPROVED!
May 22, 2013: Case Number received
June 3, 2013: Mailed out DS-230 & DS-2001
June 4, 2013: Medical Exam at Bentick Mansion
Unfortunately I have to re-do it in 6 + weeks as I was diagnosed with pneumonia
June 22, 2013 I traveled to the USA with the plan of returning to the UK, spoke to a Immigration lawyer and he told me to change my status and go the AOS route.
Since 2014 I am a permanent resident.

You won't be mailing any documents when you do DCF. Only forms get mailed to the embassy. All do uments will be taken to the interview, much like the K1 process. You will take an original or certified copy (that is considered an original because it is certified) for them to examine. Plus you take a photocopy of the same document. They look at your originals, file the photocopy, and return your originals. If you fail to bring photocopies, they charge you $1 for each photocopy they have to make.

Here's your instructions--

And your document list for what to bring to the interview--

Do click any links they suggest to find all the information you will need to know. It's scattered over various page.

Phew, then I totally misunderstood this whole stuff.

Thank you so much Nich-Nick!

I thought I have to mail all the original documents with the DS 230. So it will be just the DS230 and the Form 2001 once I have all the documents together.

I was about to freak out because I just ordered one UK police certificate and I read you need the original for the medical so I was super worried.

Thank you once again!

Yes, you've got it right now. Some of your confusion may be if you read about CR1s who aren't DCF. They have to mail documents to the NVC.

FYI- The medical people at Knightsbridge do accept photocopies of the police certificate, but you won't be sending yours off anywhere, so not a worry.

Another tip-- since you have a limited time in the UK that you indicated in the first post. When you send the DS-2001 include in the cover letter your urgency of needing a speedy interview date. Give a good reason, and say you are available on short notice should they have a cancellation. Include your email address. People have been emailed to attend with 2 days notice, so make sure you are that flexible that you could get to London.
