Hello I Moved to Egypt around October 2011 and got married on June 2012. We are expecting a new born any second now. I need some help with the I-864 and I-864a.

I don't have any income except 400 dollars a month my dad is sending me here in Egypt to hold up until I get back. I was working for a while until I had issues with my residency here in Egypt.

I will be choosing my dad as a co-sponsor. He makes about 32,500 each year from his Social Security and Pention plan as hes retired. He has a house hes doing mortgage on and thats about it. If I have no income becides the income my dad is sending me, is it good enough my dad to co-sponsor my wife. I mean I read the poverty line is 19,387 a year for 2 people. Well it's just my dad and mom that live together no one else. I read something that the co-sponsor has to be making 3x or 5x above the poverty line. Anyone who has experience can please explain to me this. I came a long way and don't want to end up getting rejected. Please correct me if I'm wrong, I have to fill out the I-864 for my self and my dad has to do the I-864a for his self? Because on part 1 of the I-864 it has options A. I am the petitioner, or D. I am the only joint sponsor.. I'm confused about this, would I just use my dad on both the I-864 and I-864a???? If someone wouldn't mind emailing to chatting with me and helping me out if you can't on here I would definitely appreciate it.

A couple of things while we wait for others to speak up:

- The joint sponsor needs to make enough to support themselves, members of their household (your mom), and the intending immigrant (your wife), so at least three people. Four if you are also a dependent.

- The amount of income needs to be more than 125 percent of the poverty level for your state and for the household size. If you are relying on assets, then the assets need to be more than 3 times the difference between income and the 125 percent figure, and they need to be things you can easily get cash from (so not the house you or your parents live in).

I'm a dual US/Hungarian citizen (both by birth; Hungarian citizenship verification TBA), and my husband is a dual British/Irish citizen (by treaty) from Northern Ireland. We are atheists.

My dad really doesn't have much assets. I will rely on his income to get approved. When you say more then 125 percent of the poverty line, how would you calculate that if the poverty line for 3 people is 24,000? Sorry it's got me a little puzzled.

For 4 people (if you are a dependent as well) he needs to make $29,437/year which it looks like he does so he doesn't need to worry about assets. A primary residence often cannot be included in assets and the mortgage left on the house needs to be subtracted from the value. I would not worry about assets.
