I got married to my wife about 2 months ago. And because she forgot to go to the civil registry right after the wedding, the marriage certificate was already sent to Manila so we couldn't file to get it earlier. So we are told we have to wait 6 months to get a copy to file the spousal visa in america. Is there anyway to get it sooner? We have a few people telling us of lawyers that can work with the NSO to get it in about a week for about 6000 pesos. Is this true? Or are these people running a scam? I know corruption is a problem there, but could it be possible some of the lawyers are being honest?

Some of us here used the copy from the civil registrars office when filing the i 130. No need to wait for the nso copy. You can submit that later with the ds 230 to the nvc. But it has to be an original. So request 2 copies from the local registrars office where you got married.

Not sure what those forms are. My lawyer is handling it since its hard for me to understand. I know I asked him about her using one from her local civil registry, but he said she needs one from the embassy (or something like that) because they use specific paper to show its from them. Its all confusing to me. >.<

Sorry to hear that. But if you have some spare time, take time to read the guides here in vj. Im sure you'll dtch the lawyer :). Its not that complicated.

And to answer your lawyer, no, you dont need a NSO copy just yet for the I - 130 filing. The civil registrar copy will do. They usually give the newlyweds a copy a few days after the ceremony.
