All of this is moot if you cannot sign the forms because you're not old enough. If you need parental consent to be married, perhaps you should wait until you don't? Being a legal adult has it advantages obviously.

Also please, for the love of anything you hold sacred, visit this site with a computer NOT a cell phone, smart phone, etc... at the very least use a tablet and put it on full version.

Some people are lazy but this almost takes the cake. 5 pages into it and we're still complaining that no one wrote it out like I just did. So much for DIY.

Hello all! I was wondering if anyone here can tell me anything and everything they know about the CR-1 Visa, such as what are all the required forms, what is an estimate of waiting, an estimate of prices, etc. I am 17 and not married but, it would help if I were told the information AS IF I were 17 and married because that may soon be the case and it would just help me out a lot. This may be a broad thing to discuss.. but please tell me anything you can! And FYI I know about the K-1 Visa and that is not a route we are willing to take at the moment.

1.The people who are advising you to do research are not doing so because they have went down the hard path and wanna make sure you do the same, they are just trying to make you realize the way this process goes. I read your complaint about USCIS not giving you relevant info, but (fortunately or unfortunately) this is how it goes. In order to be able to start the application process, you need to read the USCIS website, your local embassy and government info about this, research visajourney, ask friends who have been through this, make calls... even if you hire a lawyer, you will still need to know a lot in order not to get dragged around by people who want to make money off of you. Especially in your case.

2. even though I agree that it is nobody's business as to whether you will go to school or marry, you need to realize that when you make the decision of exposing your case to a forum like this, there's always a possibility that you are going to be judged. So filter out from the replies what is useful for you and ignore the rest of the comments.

3. When you are asking a question, please provide more information. It would be easier to help you if you provide you full circumstances. And don't get mad that people are not willing to just spread out everything they know in front of you. In a manner, it's like school; people here are wiling to help you with homework, but they won't let you copy theirs :D

Good luck.

I completely agree with the quote above, especially considering the internet is a primary source of information for everyone here. If VJ isn't cutting it for you, try youtubing... or put it on google. I can almost guarantee you you will find something useful there too. But please, don't expect the information to be hand-fed to you and most importantly, REALLY RESEARCH THIS WEBSITE BEFORE YOU SAY ITS USELESS. I have found much comfort in the forums on here. ( It's probably saved my husband from calling NVC maybe an additional 20 times too )

I know I was once a teenager myself, but I can't remember being so immature.

I just gotta say.... I love everyone here as you guys rock!

Now don't be to hard on the kids, it is apparent they will continue to shop for answers until they get the one they want...

Yeah we are kind of piling on them. But they will not listen, and they will do as they please, and they will mess up. I hope they do not mess up so badly that they ruin their chances of being together in the US. The UK won't accept them unless the Northern Irishman makes more than the average rate of pay (which is not easy, these days in Northern Ireland). Birthright Northern Irish people have dual citizenship, so Ireland may be a bit easier to get into, provided the young man documents his Irish citizenship and provides evidence of a job and a home for the couple to live in, and they register with the Gardai. The young lady will of course need to be married at 18 to avoid running afoul of the Irish law I posted about.

I'm a dual US/Hungarian citizen (both by birth; Hungarian citizenship verification TBA), and my husband is a dual British/Irish citizen (by treaty) from Northern Ireland. We are atheists.

All advice is given pursuant to the Disclaimer that you may read at the bottom of each forum page.

LATEST STEPS:

28 Jun 2013: POE Houston

08 Jul 2013: SSN received (at SSA office)

07 Aug 2013: Green Card received

27 Feb 2014: Whoa, life happened. Planning move "back home" together to Republic of Ireland by end of April.

29 Apr 2014: POE Dublin through Heathrow

15 May 2014: Received formal residency/work permission (GNIB card with Stamp 4, one year renewable) for the ROI

You have been told where the guides are, what is in them and how to use them. The instructions are printed very clearly with the accompanying forms. Take your time. Actually look at them. Just like the ACT, you can't just read just the first and last sentence of the passage and then hope to answer the questions correctly. I have always said that the process is easy enough to do yourself if you are literate. If not you may want to fix that problem before tackling immigration head on. It won't go well.

However, bottom line. You are not 18, you cannot sign a legal contract with the US government. You will need to wait.

I was just about to say the same thing.... you beat me to it......

Since you can be married AND go to college( jeeze.... who'd a thought?) , Im thinking she should go live with him and attend school and wait til she turns 18. Then go ahead and file... but I would guess, someone with such attitude and lack of maturity wouldn't make it that far.... just sayin''''

BTW you can make your own account. You do not need to post on your girlfriend's but I don't think it's against the TOS to do so.

it's not against tos, but it's discouraged as other members can be confused about who they are addressing.

several posts that add nothing beneficial to the topic removed.

for other members besides the op - either answer the op's questions (and without the snark) or don't post. failure to follow this direction can lead to inability to sleep, heartburn, headaches, thread bans, or other admin action like a suspension of one's account. check with your doctor if you think hitting reply without thinking things through works for you.

for the op - read. there's vast amounts of info on this site for you. having a good understanding of the process you want to go through will make questions more focused.

Honest answer... under 18 - you cannot legally sign the I-130 and support documentation.

Second honesty... when you marry in the US, the husband will have to return for some period to complete the CR1/immigration process. There is no way around this. If you come here with the intent to marry and stay this is immigration fraud. You can come to visit, marry and stay the length of your visa but you will still need to go back for a while.

If you both know SO much about this process, why are you here pestering VJ members? Clearly, everyone else besides you two realize the gravity of the case. If you don't care for what information the members have gathered for you by taking the time to do so, you can LEAVE this site. For the umpteenth time, EVERYONE thus far have given you answers that are HONEST, LEGAL and CORRECT. You've been told what forms to fill out, you've been told where to gather the forms, what documentation should be provided with the forms, what steps come after those forms are filled out, how many steps are involved, you've been told about the fees, you've been told about the financial responsibility, and even why this process is not valid for you both yet (because the GF is under 18 and she cannot petition until 18, regardless of whether she can marry or not). What more do you want?

The only people passing "smartarse" comments are you both. Cut the nonsense, read what the posters have wrote-ALL YOUR ANSWERS ARE THERE. You came here for help, you've been given help. If you don't like the answers you see, GO GET A LAWYER-that would be the ADULT AND MATURE thing to do, as you both claim yourselves to be.

P.S. Good Luck and have a nice day. :)

I'm the one who has researched this, and you have not. But if you are going to be so high-handed as to ignore the advice given you, it's your own fault what happens to you.

I'm a dual US/Hungarian citizen (both by birth; Hungarian citizenship verification TBA), and my husband is a dual British/Irish citizen (by treaty) from Northern Ireland. We are atheists.
