Would you tell your spouse?

Just getting away from immigration topics for few minutes.

I was watching a TV program and an issue came up where the lead actress was having marital problems because she had hidden from her husband, the fact that she works for the secret service. She had obeyed her boss's advice not to jeopardize her family safety by telling her husband she works for a puzzle company and could be called upon at any time of the day on a case. he went along with it for months without questions. They both love each other to death but of course trouble started when her husband ran into her coming out of a grocery store with her partner (they were following a lead on a case). With shock on her face, she claimed they had stopped by from the office to pick up stuff but both of them came out empty handed. Of course hubby storms off and wife is left speechless and devastated.

I discussed this with my husband and we tried to analyze to what extent we would hide information from each other.

So I started wondering how many people out would actually go with this advice of "dont tell your spouse the nature of your job (intelligence agencies and others) because you could jeopardize their safety and yours".

what would you do?

GOD has been WONDERFUL!!!

I would tell them the nature of my job, but not the details. Telling your spouse that you work for the CIA/ FBI/ military intelligence is not going to endanger their safety. Telling them you are looking into the drug smuggling activities of Mr John Doe who works at X company, or that you need to travel to X country to do undercover work for a month might.

I thought so too. Infact hubby could not comprehend why anyone would not share such with their significant other unless the person has an issue with keeping their mouth shut.

Agreed!

Working for a company like that would be akin to working for the military with top secret clearance IMHO. You do things you can't tell your spouse about, but that doesn't mean they don't know you work for the Air Force, or Marines etc... Your spouse deserves to know what you do for a living.

LOL. thats the thing! The guy had the idea that check was from "puzzle company' not intelligence agency and knew when she was at work which he probably assumed was sitting behind a desk in the office and he never asked for more cos he trusted her until he ran into her with the case partner.

The check comes from your real company. Front companies are a thing more of movies and TV than real life. But on the subject , the NSA( national security agency ) was famous for opening their interviews with " anything you say can be used against you " talk about upping the tension.
