If your AP is not approved and you are outside of the country thats the end of your journey.

If there is a problem and your AP is stuck and needs you to tend to the issue and you are out of the country you are stuck without the travel document to re-enter the US.

If your AP is lost or stolen in the mail and you never get it, then you have no AP document to return with.

Edit - moved from bringing family members to the USA to traveling during immigration forums as the OP is asking about traveling and travel documents.

There is NOT an option to send an AP abroad. There is an option to send a reentry permit abroad. Those are different things.

If you leave before you have AP in your hand, you will not be coming back to the US.

AOS for my husband
8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!

E. If you travel before the advance parole document is issued, your application will be considered abandoned if:

1. You depart the United States; or

2. The person seeking advance parole attempts to enter the United States before a decision is made on the application.
