They are not required to provide treatment, just enough to make you medically stable and then it is out the door.

She has the right to buy insurance or pay for treatment.

Have you considered looking for alternative work that does provide medical benefits?

It's hard to find those jobs that offer benefits. Unemployment in Chicago is more than 10%, and it seems like it is even 20%. And all those jobs that you can find don't offer benefits. College educated people in Chicago are happy to find a job for $10 an hour right now. Employers know that and that is why the salaries are going down.

The bottom line is you need to have a connection to get a decent job with benefits.

Often there is not a solution that is acceptable, you then have to do what ever you consider least worst.

You might want to ask around and research further...but one option to look into, is going to college? Just follow me here for a sec...

I believe CR-1 holders can apply for student aid without a problem. Assuming your spouse can get in (to maybe a relatively cheap city/county/state college). From there, you could get student health insurance, which is drastically cheaper than standard private insurance. Now I have no idea what coverage limits, exception, etc...having never used it in school myself, but I assume the majority of college kids don't use it easier, it's got to be cheaper than anything you can find accessible to the general public, while providing some decent coverage. Do the research and math.

The State of Illinois funds a program for Illinois residents to cover women who are pregnant for prenatal care, delivery and 60 days of postnatal care. Also, there is coverage for children. These programs are available on a sliding fee scale which is free on the low end for those who are income eligible without regard to immigration or citizenship status.
