Canadian citizen needs back and forth access to the US

Hello All!!

It's been ages since I've been here -- and for some reason the admins won't return my email request for assistance to get my long time access issue fixed, so here I am under a new name. :-)

Anywho - I have a question.

I have a friend who is a Canadian citizen. He is a Catholic priest who will be doing business with some companies in the US in relation to a ministry he is setting up. He will need to be able to cross the Michigan borders on a regular basis to go back and forth to meet with these companies. He does not know what his options are, or even where to start. He will remain a Canadian citizen, but will possibly have overnights or short stays in the US on a regular basis.

Thanks again for your time and assistance --- I've never known a more helpful group of folks on the internet than on this forum!!

:-)

Thank you for the link! I don't this this applies to his situation, however.

An R-1 is a foreign national who is coming to the United States temporarily to be employed at least part time (average of at least 20 hours per week) by a non-profit religious organization in the United States (or an organization which is affiliated with the religious denomination in the United States) to work as a minister or in a religious vocation or occupation.

He will not be employed by anyone in the United States. He will be employed by an organization that is based in Canada, but he will be doing business with American businesses.

Does this change the situation for the R-1 visa?

Thanks much!!

Normal B visa. As a Canadian he just needs his passport. It is authorized for business meetings.

8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!

Pardon my ignorance -- but the "normal B visa" - that is just visa waiver, correct? Nothing to apply for?

Thank you!!!

I would also get a NEXUS card.

Simplifies things at the border or in the Airports. :)

I thought NEXUS was for those without passports -- so even with a passport, this will still be helpful? I'll have to learn more about NEXUS. I also thought this was only for US Citizens, did not realize that Canadians could get them as well. This may well be what he needs.

Thanks!!

You are required to have your passport with you for air travel but it makes customs and security at the airport much easier. I hear the land crossings are much simpler as well but I haven’t driven down since I got my card.
