I recently married my long-time boyfriend and am currently in the US under OPT.

We are filling out the papers so that I can get a green card but I heard a rumor that once we file the papers, my EAD will no longer be valid since my USCIS status will change from an F-1 OPT student to an AOS applicant/adjustee.

On the other hand, I also heard people say that I can continue be employed as long as I don't work past the end date of my EAD card. What would be the correct thing to do in my case?

My second question is whether or not I can continue to stay in the U.S. past the end date of my EAD card and/or past my OPT grace period if I am in the process of filing for a green card.

My EAD expires near the end of July so my OPT grace period will allow me to stay in the US until September. While I think I have just enough time for the process I want to be prepared any complications.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You can use the old EAD until it runs out.

You can stay, in fact you must stay or your application will be considered abandoned. Once your package is sent in and accepted for initial review you will begin a NEW period of authorized stay while it is pending.

You cannot continue to travel like before though. You must wait until you get the special travel permission, called Advance Parole (or the GC).

AOS for my husband

ROC:
