I am working in the US on an H1B visa. I just got my green card today. How do I get a GC for my wife who is here on an H4 visa?

I was waiting for my priority date to become current to add my wife to my application (on a lawyer's advice). However, my GC arrived before I filed her application. Does this now mean that she will have to apply separately (as my spouse) and wait for years again till her date becomes current? Is she out of status since she is on an H4 which depends on my H1B which must be invalid now that I have a GC. How long do we have to file for her GC? Does she need to leave the country? If so, how soon?

Can she apply now and get my priority date?

We are from India.

I am in the process of finding an attorney, but as it may take a day or two, I'd appreciate some advance info on this forum to easy our anxiety about this unexpected turn of events.
