Hard to believe.

I didn't take a running survey, but I figured when people found out I was from the U.S. that at least one person would say, "I'd like to live there some day" Not one. Like I said some people said they'd like to see Disneyworld, or some B.S. like that.

There are many things we love about the US but we can also admit that there are some things that we dont like. So if we decide to ever leave to go elsewhere it will be on our terms.

When they found out I was from California, the question always was, "How far is that from Hollywood?"

The premise of the OP was that America was not the best place to be. That presumes there are better places to be. If you are happier slumming, when you could be styling, I guess that makes this a good choice for you.

No, the premise is that the US does not have the best quality of life like some folks would like you to believe.

I keep hearing America is the best place to be, but nobody will tell me what that's based on. Quality of life? Education? Economy? Health? What is America #1 at?

That doesn't mean I think choosing to live here is "slumming" it. It isn't, by any means. This is still a great country. But let's look beyond the blind patriotism and admit its fault and say it isn't as good as it could be and it isn't as amazing as we like to believe it is.

For some reason, there are some people who truly believe that people all over the world are just desperate to come and live in America. That isn't the case.

The question still is, if this is not the best country to live in the world, which country is, and why are you not living there? It seems pretty silly not to seek to live in the best possible country, for you.

You said it was the best country in the world. As if that's a fact. And suggested that people who disagree with your opinion (since that's all it is) should leave. Nobody said they weren't happy here.

it is, they should

Hard to believe.

i call BS too

I guess you forgot about this one.

I think the major answer to this is that people are settled in the U.S. because they grew up here. They have family they don't want to just abandon. Foreign countries mean a long time getting used to a foreign language before a good job can be found. That's too much for many people who are unhappy in the U.S. to handle, so they stay. Not to mention that it's not easy to get a residence visa in many of the countries where the quality of life is higher than the U.S.

Does that make sense?

After all, many people do dream of leaving the U.S. and moving to an island when they retire.

Yes agreed, I have had comments from folks telling me why the hell did you ever move to the US.
