What I don't need to earn a living? Sorry, I ain't got no rich uncle prepared to fund my families lifestyle, so I don't really see how I have much of a choice?

I earn a living and I didn't take any drug test to do so.

I would, if asked, but I wasn't. So pee in a cup and make them happy, or don't and find a job that doesn't require you to do so.

I don't like having to remember to lock my door when I leave the house. But if I don't, someone could walk in and steal my stuff. So I have to lock it.

What is that supposed to mean? You're comparing two completely different situations. All I am saying is that there is no need for drug testing if employers pay attention to who they're hiring.

You think all illegal drug users are obviously illegal drug users?

Are you one of those people who absolutely loses their sh*t in a checkout line when they ask you for your zip code?

Its similar. You have to do stuff you don't want to do because other people suck. You wouldn't have to take a drug test if people didn't take drugs and endanger others on the job. Part of paying attention to who you're hiring means drug testing them in my opinion. All you gotta do is pee in a cup. How is that a big deal?

Now if you want to talk about how it shouldn't be a crime to smoke pot, start a new thread and we can hang out and agree with each other all day.

Lucky for you, but not everybody has that option. You might have noticed that the US has an official unemployment rate of 7.6% which doesn't include all the people who are no longer being counted as unemployed, yet still have no job, and then millions more underemployed individuals. The job market is really tough right now, and few people can afford to hold out for jobs that don't require drug testing.

I really do not understand why you would do that. You said you didn't do drugs. Is this like a principle thing?

Not sure about losing it but I usually decline to provide it unless it is relevant to the transaction. Same with my phone # if they ask for it at the check out. None of their business. I also don't like using turn signals.

No, but if the occasional spliff is not effecting job performance, why do I care?

Are you one of those people who absolutely loses their sh*t in a checkout line when they ask you for your zip code?

No, I don't believe in being rude to anybody, and am capable of understanding that I am not the center of the Universe, which is more than can be said for a great number people I see when I am out shopping or driving.

I haven't refused a drug test I was required to take for a job but it is an aweful practice. There were times where one was innocent until proven guilty. There were times when a threshold of initial evidence had to be met in order for a search to be lawful. Ah, the good ole days.

I said I don't like to use them. I did not say that I do not use them. Not liking to use them is not yet against the law. But if we keep heading down this track, it may soon be.

I worked in a grocery store as a teenager and I got cussed out for asking for a zip code. All management was trying to do was figure out which areas of downtown were doing the majority of shopping at our store. But that didn't stop 50 year old men from calling 17 year old me a "nosy punk" ...

Yeah but he said he said some people (I assume himself) don't have the luxury to look for a job that doesn't require drug test because of the tough economy? I only ever cared about drug tests back in the ol' college days........... oh the college days..........

Ya, a kind of freedom based principle. You know how the US is supposed to be the land of the free, so for me at least, I believe that freedom should extend, within reason, to allowing anybody the right to put what they want in their bodies and not be fear discrimination just because they their drug of choice is Marijuana and not legally obtained Vicodin for example.
