Hello fellow VJers. I haven't posted in awhile. I have a question about travel to China and back for Ying. On her I-485 application, she had her biometrics long ago and is still waiting for the interview. But she also months ago received her employment authorization and I-512 advance parole card "combo card". We are now ready to do all the things needed (paperwork and final interview) to get her 15 year old son a K2 visa issued based on her K1 (its still well within the year requirement - her K1 was issued last September). The question is this: Ying has heard from her Chinese friends that she should not travel back to China until she has her 2 year green card with her, becasue Chinese customs officials will give her a difficult time (either refuse her entry, or not let her leave) with only her China Passport with the K1 visa and the US I-512 Advance parole card. So she is scared about going back to China to be with her son on his interview without already having her green card. I think she is incorrect, that the I-512 travel authorization advance parole card is sufficient. Can the experts here give us some advice concerning this worry of hers? We would appreciate it very much. Thanks!

heard about the China Customs snafu here - seems Shanghai was the only airport that had properly trained staff, but even then, it took a supervisor's review.

re: the K-2 - if he's ready, it's a simple matter of setting up an account on ustraveldocs.com and going forth with the rest of it.

USED TO BE, ya send off the packet 3 doc thingie to GUZ IV, and they schedule and interview, but that's no longer.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

Hey stevo,

Glad to hear that things are going well. My wife had to go back to China in December to tie-up some business finances. My wife and stepson received their EAD/AP combo cards 1 Nov. We had heard of some similar issues with using the AP document, so we were hoping that they would receive their GCs prior to the wife's planned December trip. The wife's use of her combo card for travel was to be our "choice of last resort" alternative. It worked out for us, we had our AOS interview right before Thanksgiving, they received their GCs on 30 Nov. She had a successful and hassle-free China trip using her GC (except for the 2-hour search by CBP thugs upon returning to SeaTac airport…that's another story  ). We just wanted to play it safe, luckily she got her GC before her trip. If your wife can wait for her GC, that would be optimum.

I agree with Darnell about the K-2 processing at the GUZ, interested to hear your thoughts about the new visa processing with ustraveldocs.com.

Good luck.

Completed: K1/K2 (271 days) - AOS/EAD/AP (134 days) - ROC (279 days)

I haven't heard anything recently about any difficulty. My wife did it last year through PVG without any issues. We carried a lot of support documentation explaining what the card was just in case. It's been out there for a while now so I don't think it will be a problem.

Thanks for the replies.

Operator - just to be clear - so there was no problem for you entering and leaving China using just a China passport and a US Advance parole card (no green card)?

Darnell and A&B - thanks - yes I sent an inquiry to GUZ on the intenet saying we were about ready to do the paperwork for her son's K2, and they immediately sent us instructions, and a link to start it all up. We haven't started it yet, because we don't want them moving so fast that they schedule her son's interview in the next three or four weeks, when we can wait a little longer, and Ying still does not have her Green card. We feel like if we wait a few more weeks, maybe she will have it by the time of her son's interview. It looks like once we start it all and send the electronic forms in, GUZ will move fast.

A&B, glad to hear from you too. You have been staying on top of things with VJ (offering advice) much better than me!

Thanks again.

Steve
