Hello,

My wife and I have been married since September of 2012. I'm a born and raised U.S. citizen, and she's from China. She came here on a J-1 visa and we met while she was working. We got married two months later by a justice of the peace. There was no ceremony or anything. We're worried that this may affect the outcome of our interview because we didn't have a lavish wedding. We also don't have any affidavits attesting to the legitimacy of our marriage, but I could get one from each of my parents. Did we dig ourselves into a hole? Can you give us some advice? Thank you.

The best proof you can have is of cohabitation and co-mingled finances. Joint bank accounts, credit card accounts, health insurance, life insurance, car insurance, lease, house ownership, correspondence sent to the both of you, anything like that. Many couples have just a courthouse wedding, no big deal.

are you chasing a visa, and in what city will the interview be in ?

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

and Dwheels76's post in this thread:

Topic has been moved from US Embassy and Consulate forum to AOS from Work, Student & tourist Visa forums as the OP is adjusting from a J-1 visa.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

not having Lavish wedding is not going to be a problem I think but not having enough evidence may be a slight problem

But as a+j suggested try that steps to increase the probability of getting you the visa.

so you filed the I-130 and the I-485.

In the I-130, there's a list of evidence types. Here's what I was able to generate, 30 days after coming back from the marriage trip - http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=218775&st=0&p=3324240&hl=Rusticentry3324240 so refactor yer stuff a bit . You have just enough time to get things shifted, IMO, so review my list, see what you can do.

FWIW, you posted in the Embassy section, but you're having a local interview at a local USCIS office in the USA, seeking an adjustment of status from a J1 visa and not having an interview for a Visa at the US Consulate Guangzhou/IV Unit.

I'll stop scratching my head now - carry on !
