Hey everyone,

I thought I would write a little paragraph on my experiences of the past year living in the U.S. in the hope that it will help and give confidence to others. Visajourney has been invaluable to me throughout my process and I hope in this way I can give a wee bit back.

It has been exactly 1 year since I flew over to Texas on the vwp. In that year I got married, applied for and received the gc in 66 days, got my social security card, applied for 1 job as veterinary nurse at the best veterinary hospital in Fort Worth and one of the best in the whole Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex and got it, and recently I took my driving test and passed it (on the 2nd attempt!). I got my first credit card approved and a car and have achieved a lot in one year. I have to be honest and say that for the most part, my journey into integrating into Texas has been easy with no hurdles in my way. It makes me think that this is where I was meant to be; call it fate or call it God. I know that many people are at different stages in their visa/gc journey and I just hope that my wee experiences will give some sense of reassurance and encouragement.

This year has gone by so incredibly fast and I am at a stage now where I can finally sit back a little and relax with my husband and not have to make lists of what all still has to be done like taking a driving test or applying for a credit card. I'm happy and content with a wonderful husband and with friends who I can rely on.

If you are going through the gc process, hang in there. Things that seem impossible are attainable and if its what you really want, it will be worth it in the end. Happiness is everything.

Hey, good to hear from you Kat and so glad everything is going well for you! David and Chris have been here about 2 1/2 years now and are doing really well too. Life really does get into a great pace once so much of the immigration is behind you!

Thanks for the update and best wishes for a bright future! (F)

Kat,

That's a good post:

It's a relief that the paperwork is 90% complete (inc. GC & SS#), driver's license, credit cards, and most importantly permanent US Gov't job (long-term security). Basically, the home sickness and honeymoon stages are past and we're in the groove.

I hear ya' :)

I find this post really good. We read every day about how people struggle with their immigration processes, ones goes faster than others, others get stalled without any explanation (or at least they lack of a very good one). Kat’s process was pretty quick. Mine was a little bit longer (190 some days or so), and this post amused me, because even though I’ve been here more than a year (14 months on Dec. 1st), yesterday was my birthday and I had a little time to sit back and see how far I had come since last year. Basically, at my birthday last year we were scrambling to get all the paperwork together, I didn’t have a bank account, cellphone, ID card, not to mention it was starting to get a lil frustrating the realization that without the appropriate documentation you are basically a no-body in this country. But as Kat, I got my documents, a job, a car, credit cards and now we’re buying a house, and like her, I thought, it has been an incredible trip. I have gone LOOOONG ways since my last birthday, and call it fate, call it destiny… or whatever you want to call it. I have the certainty that this is where I am supposed to be, with the most wonderful man loving me in my good days and in my bad ones too…

I guess that right now it’s hard to believe, but there IS light at the end of this tunnel. When the worst is past, you can sit, relax and realize that you made the correct move when you decided to come to you loved one’s side of the world.

Congratulations Kat on your amazing and fortunate trip. And to the rest that’s still on the journey… the best of lucks!

You are right in that most of the time we hear of the problems and frustrations. It is always good to hear that someone is happy and content.

I do think most of the frustrsation we hear from Americans on. We are a nation of instant gratification

and wanting something accomplished now not next week.
