Both the petitioner and the joint sponsor fill in a I-864, send it tax documents and proof of income. If the joint sponsor has a spouse, that spouse can fill in a I-864A.

Hey,

Thanks for your reply. My wife is studying so she does not have any income (very low income) but she has her tax returns. My cousin will be my joint sponsor and he has a family. So does his wife need to fill in I-864 A? In I-864 it says in Part 3 ' I am sponsoring the principal immigrant named above and then it gives option to check YES and NO ( Only in case of two joint sponsors). Could you please tell me which one should I check Yes or NO? I am confused.

Your help is much appreciated.

Hey All,

My spouse is studying and does not have any income (very low income) but has tax returns that we will be sending . My cousin will be my joint sponsor and he has a family. So does his wife need to fill in I-864 A? Is it a requirement for his wife to fill out I-864 A or we only need I-864 from my cousin?

Also In I-864 it says in Part 3 ' I am sponsoring the principal immigrant named above and then it gives option to check

YES

and

NO ( Only in case of two joint sponsors).

which one should I check Yes or NO? I am confused.

Help is much appreciated.

*** two topics on the same issue merged. PLease do not start more than one topic on an issue- ask follow-on questions in the same thread ****

If the joint sponsor and wife file tax returns together, or if you want to use the wife's income too, she MUST file I-864A. It's generally better to have her file it anyways, as many embassies want it to show she is aware of what is going on as the sponsorship could have financial implications for the family.

Yes.

Your cousin is the only joint sponsor. Your wife is the petitioner/primary sponsor.
