HEY GUYS!

I'm currently filling up the form i-130 for dcf manila and on question 13 it ask about how I acquired my citizenship...

I was born in the Philippines however, my father was a US citizen.. so he filed an FS240 for me in manila when i was little.

So i know i don't qualify for citzenship through birth or naturalization papers... so should i just check parents?

I don't have a certificate of citizenship in my name? so I should just check no?

help please :]

thanks!

I don't know much about the subject/question you asked. I Googled it and tried to find an Answer or Facts. It appears somewhere there is a record but how to proceed I'm unsure. Hope this helps. I would write Parents since the father was a USC living abroad.

When a child is born to a United States citizen while the citizen is traveling or living abroad, the child likely still qualifies for U.S. citizenship. However, there are certain requirements that must be met before the child's citizenship can be legally recognized. As soon as possible after the birth, the parents are required to report the birth at the closest United States Embassy or Consulate. . This report must be made in person but the form can be downloaded online in advance at http://www.state.gov/documents/organization/156216.pdf. Once the report is made and verified, a Consular Report of Birth (FS-240) will be issued. The FS-240 certifies the child's citizenship. It is imperative that this form be filed before the child turns 18 if United States citizenship is desired. After the age of 18, new FS-240's cannot be issued. Instead, the child may need to seek citizenship through the immigration and naturalization process depending on their current country of residence.Although new FS-240's are not issued after the age of 18, replacement and amended FS-240's can be requested at any time. In order to request a replacement FS-240, a notarized letter of request including pertinent information about the requester, a copy of the requester's identification, and a 50-dollar fee should be sent to the United States Department of State. For a full listing of requirements and the mailing address, please reference the Department of State website at http://travel.state.gov/passport/get/first/first_825.html.The current FS-240 is a high-tech document with watermarks and other security features intended to prevent fraud. As such, these forms are now produced in a centralized location and distributed to individual countries. This production means that Embassies and Consulates do not have blank forms to fill in on the spot, as in past years. This new FS-240 replaces prior FS-240's and the previously used Certificate of Report of Birth (DS-1350) is no longer issued. However, old FS-240's and DS-1350's are still valid forms of identification
