Hello everyone,

First of all, I would like to thank you all for every post you've posted that was helpful to me and my husband during our IR1 case.

We are now in the process of filing for our son. We've already sent out all the documents to USCIS and have received a receipt for our case. My question is, for those of you from Jamaica or with spouses from Jamaica who have filed for a stepchild (I hate that word :-(), have you wondered or worried about the simplicity of the custody letter received from the court? I sometimes worried that it is too simple and almost "unofficial" looking. It has the court stamp and the judge's signature and name granting my husband full custody, but it is just on simple paper.

I would appreciate it if someone who has been through a similar case could lessen my worried and assure me that the "simple" looking document was enough and accepted by the immigration officer or NVC.

Thank you all and good luck on your journey.

Never thru that but the documents now issued in Jamaica are well known by uscis, they are updated

on all the docs, if that's what the court issued (the original) you should have no problems they are

aware that smaller countries papers may not come on parchment :D) like theirs....hardly think its much

to worry about. as long as it was legitimately issued.

Thank you so much for for the reply. I know it is official because I was in Jamaica when they went to court. As a matter of fact, I went with my husband that day. He was given custody and asked to return after so many days to get the letter. I guess I should not worry myself about it.

Question: at what point would we be asked for the custody document.

Maybe with petition (copy)NVC usually wants original BC, MC & things that that from court,

if not then at the interview where its recommended U take original copy of these certificates in

case it is mislaid by NVC...good luck

Thank you so much for your response. Is it accurate to assume that the process for a minor child would probably not take as long as that of an adult to complete? With my husband, it took almost 2 long years from the time USCIS received our I130 to the time my husband received his visa.

Again, thanks for your help
