When to submit police clearance

Hi all,

I just got my 130 approved and have a question or two about the NVC stage.

I have read that the police clearance is needed for this step, but do not see at what point my wife will need to submit that, can someone clarify that for me? The embassy's website also shows that the case number needs to be on the cover sheet, so I am guessing I need to wait until the case number is generated, yes?

Last is about the AOS...

I am going to be very close to the cutoff for the amount of money needed for the sponsorship. I do have a co-sponsor, but would prefer not to go that way if I don't have to.

My question is.. if a co-sponsor is needed, will I get an RFE by the NVC, or will that come from the consulate at the time of the interview?

The Police clearance certificate will be needed with the DS-230 (IV) package.

The AOS is consulate specific. What may pass at the NVC may not pass at the consulate. What passes at one consulate may not pass at another unless you're quite comfortably over. The NVC tries to do the best they can to make sure you have what it takes but every consulate is different and can demand a joint sponsor if you're too close for their comfort. Make sure you've looked at the recent I-864P (poverty guidelines) as they've changed for 2013.
