AMA wouldn't do mine. I went to London Drugs. $12.50 per 2 pictures. First lady I got did a great job. Second one kept cutting my head wrong. Thank god they're just for the medical. I tried to do them myself but it never worked out right.

Hi there,

You could go ahead and fax your checklist to vancouver without your medical exam. Then you are able to schedule your interview yourself online. You need to schedule your interview first before you can make an appointment for your medical exam anyway. There is only ONE doctor you can get your medical exam from in BC and that is Dr. Cheema http://www.drcheema.ca/ in Surrey, BC. Please keep in mind that when you get your medical exam done, you will get your results after 4pm the NEXT day. Therefore you are going to need to spend at least 3 days in the Vancouver area. I don't know if there are approved physicians to get your medical exam done in Alberta.

Once you have your interview date scheduled, e-mail Dr. Cheema's office tell them that you are coming from Alberta and you need to have your medical exam scheduled 2 days before your interview in Vancouver. You can only contact Dr. Cheema's office by leaving a voice mail or contacting them by e-mail. When you contact them by e-mail put URGENT in the subject line and put "USA immigration medical exam" you may have to e-mail them a few times as they are not the best at getting back to you.

Unfortunately Dr. Cheema's office is not near the Vancouver embassy. It is in Delta (North Surrey). Check out hotels.ca or something similar to find cheap hotels. You will need 2 days for your medical exam so you may need to stay 2 nights in Delta and then 1 or 2 nights in Vancouver. Also, the X-rays/blood work are done in a different location - but it is just up the road from the Dr.'s office - so you'll probably just need to take a cab from there - a little too far to hoof it, I'd say but the exam/X-Rays and blood work are done the same day. There will be a little waiting time in the lab as it is usually really busy.

Jen is delta Surrey Bc, is a flight travel for me to get there... How can i managed to go there and then vancouver,, pls let me know, its so stressful

I'm sorry it's so stressful - I do wish they had put them closer to each other.

If you fly into Vancouver which is probably the airport where you will end up, Surrey is about a 45 minute drive away, or over an hour depending on the traffic. If you don't have a car or want to take a cab that far, your best option is probably to take the sky train (basically a raised subway) to Surrey (there is a sky train station at the Vancouver airport), and then a bus once you are in Surrey - not sure how close the sky train station is to Dr. Cheema's. It will take a little longer since it is public transit but you should get there okay. You will just need to give yourself time.

RE: American-style passport photos

CAA is a great resource, I second them. Alternately you can print out the State Department requirements and take them with you to Costco or London Drugs or the like, have the photographer meet those criteria. There are several professional photography shops in Vancouver able to take photographs to the specifications, and they advertise online doing so. Pretty sure Calgary will have several as well, so take a look. :)

Sorry for the delayed reply Juicyapple!

For your medical you will need to show that you have received your required vaccinations. There is a list of vaccinations you need on drcheema.ca under USA immigration medical exam section. Depending on your age you will probably need to show you have had shots for varicella, measles/mumps/rubella, tetanus/diptheria/pertussis and influenza (but only during winter-so not right now). If you have had chicken pox/varicella as a child you can tell them the year you've had it. If you are not sure you can get blood tests done to show your immunity. If you haven't had a TDap shot in the last two years you should probably get a new one. I'd recommend asking your family doctor about this information.

When you are there you will get an xray done and blood taken but you don't need to prepare ahead of time for those. It will be in a different building a few blocks away..might take awhile to walk there.

If your child isn't coming with you, you don't need to worry about her medical paperwork since she won't be needing to get it done.

The cab from Vancouver for the medical won't be cheap..I'm guessing at least $70 or more. It would be a lot cheaper to take public transit (but also more confusing if you aren't from the area I'm sorry).

Since you are K1 you will need to book your own interview date, but make sure you can get your medical done before... more than a day would be best. When you book your medical ask how long it will take to get your results.

I'm sorry it's so stressful - I do wish they had put them closer to each other.
