Lack of knowledge is what drives them to want to have a ceremony in the Philippines AND to brag that their daughter married an American.

But seriously if money is an issue, then just have a small gathering/party for her close relatives and friends. :dancing::dance:

As someone mentioned Filipinos are a very family based culture. I saw nothing wrong with my wife wanting a second wedding in Philippines which all her family, parents, brothers, sisters and relatives could attend. Most women dream of having a church wedding with family members in attendance. If you do a k1 that's not possible.

Also if your wife wants a Catholic marriage they view you as unmarried as they don't view any marriage outside of a Catholic one a real marriage. Doesn't matter if you have a marriage certificate and report of marriage.

In any case it does cost money for a wedding ceremony but if you had a civil one in the US like me you saved money on the first one anyway.

For me it made my wife extremely happy and it was the right thing to do for us. Good memories for that occasion with her family and friends. No regrets for spending money on a ceremony. You can do that within your budget the same as you can in the US.

Im going to Phil next month and was supposed to have a church ceremony there but me and my wife decided not to do it because of the cost and me never going through holy communion and stuff. It is not inexpensive as people have said, the plane tickets alone are costing me $3,000 yet its possible to find them as low as $2,000 for 2 people. So with trying to plan a ceremony and the church arrangements it was nearly impossible and giving my wife a headache. Now we are just having a dinner for the whole family up to 100 guests and going to Boracay as a sort of honeymoon.

My Proposal to kristine!!! :)
