im not sure if i could use the example letters of intent for me and my fiance. they are very well written and to the point, but in the description it says original? could i use those or is it not a good idea?

You should really write your own letters, examples are examples, you can use some points of it but it does need to be personal and written by the both of you.

I didn't use them verbatim, but you could. The meaning of "original" in this sense, isn't words that have never been used in such a way before. What they want is the original document and not a copy. At least that's how I interpreted it.

I would recommend just writing up a simple letter of intent and signing it, have your fiance(e) do the same and make sure to send in both of the originals (of course, also make a copy for your records).

Many people here have just used the example ones on this site without problem. What they mean is that they have original signatures (so not photocopies).

if i write my own should i use the letter head in the example? addressed to the dep. of homeland security? or leave that out? the funny thing is i read that letter then try to make my own and cant think of a better or different way to write it

i just changed the wording a little bit but couldnt change much since its just stating intent to marry, not proclamation of love

You just write you are legally free to marry and willing to do so within 90 days of entering to the U.S. on K1 visa. The sample letters available on VJ are fine! Original means the signature has to be original, so no photocopies. Remember there have to be two letters dated and signed: one from the petitioner and one from the beneficiary.

I too used the example. I think that my full page letter of how we met and within 2 years fully explained our comitment to marriage plus all the many pages of examples I provided.

Original means that you should file the original signature; that is, a fax, scan or copy is not good. FYI, depending on how long the process takes, it would help to have handy the same letters stating that intent to marry is reaffirmed, with dates closer to interview.

You don't need to write a book, a simple 2-3 lines stating who you are, and who you want to marry (in ours, I added "within 90 days of entering US on K-1") is enough. One per each of you.
