Getting passport back after K-1 interview

After much stress and hassle (and time!) my fiance had his interview and was approved for his visa on Monday, 4/15! He let me know that he received his big envelope from the embassy in the mail today, but I have a question I was hoping someone could clear up. I know that, at this point, the embassy sends an envelope that the recipient is NOT supposed to open under any circumstances because that is to be handed in to immigration at the point of entry when they arrive in the U.S. (my fiance's POE will be Boston). Now, is the 12x14 envelope with the 12.50euro postage that he handed in on the day of his interview the envelope that he's not supposed to open, and will he receive his passport with the visa in another envelope that will arrive in the mail separately? Or do the passport and POE paperwork both arrive together in the same 12x14 envelope and have the POE paperwork sealed in a smaller envelope inside that one?

At the moment I've told him not to open anything yet just in case, but after doing some searching on here and on Google I can't really tell which envelope is the one he's not to open and which one would contain his passport. All I've learned is that the POE paperwork comes in a yellow envelope and the passport is kept inside a clear pouch.

Thanks for any help!

I am not sure how true this holds for the Irish embassy, but the German consulate sent me a letter by mail which contained

- the passport,

- the sealed envelope (it said in big letters "DO NOT OPEN")

- and (also sealed and having a "DO NOT OPEN" sign) a smaller envelope containing the medical for my AOS.

Btw, at the interview they also showed me the envelopes and what exactly they contain, and also explained which ones I am not allowed to open.

I suggest you ask someone from your regional Irish forum, or e-mail the embassy and inquire.

Thanks to both of you. I've asked my fiance to contact the embassy and see if they will explain to him if the envelope he received is safe to open. He'll call tomorrow. Thank you again!
