A database of people who cannot own guns would fail? So why impose background checks then? Isn't a database of people who cannot own guns?

I don't think background checks will work either. As you likely can attest, background checks usually only affect your "law abiding citizen"

For like the 100th time. Criminals typically don't obtain laws legally, so any law you create would not change them having one

Yes but is it the right advice. AT least we should get the opportunity to provide input.

 Certainly. I'll do it and hope Charles! will help us keep the thread open if it gets hijacked.

I did. My bad.

We left for awhile and it wasn't all that bad overseas. Opened our eyes quite a bit. We like it here though, and even with a few flaws it's a great country.

No problem. It's easy to misunderstand when my post is somewhat off-topic, anyway :P

Going overseas is the greatest thing I have ever done, and I've become somewhat of an addict. If you go to another country, experience another culture firsthand, and learn another language, you develop a form of schizophrenia... a good kind of schizophrenia, in my opinion :P.

When I speak English, I'm practically a completely different person from when I speak Japanese, and a different person yet when I speak Mongolian, because of the vast differences in culture, and what it is and isn't polite/acceptable to say/act.

What would Xenu do?

And yet, these individuals all could buy a gun online or from a private seller at a gun show no questions asked. That is what the Manchin-Toomey compromise sought to stop bu the NRA and a minority of Senators enslaved to the NRA felt it more important to protect the criminals' abundant firearm supply.

Dude its not that difficult prosecute these 77,000 fine them, put them in jail is going to stop them from purchasing a firearm not another law.

If dog keeps on barking, robber is not going to be afraid of the dog, does not matter how loud the dog barks.

Robber would be afraid of the dog when he bites.

I'm saying that if you create a database of people who can't own guns, the people in said database can just steal or borrow a gun from someone not in the database. Then all that money (tax money) put into the database system was circumvented and the bad guy got a gun. I initially read your post backwards. i assumed you mean, a database of people who COULD own a gun. Either way, it would fail

Cmon man, I live in KY. Plenty of local advice to be had

From my understanding working in the IT field for years it is much easier and manageable to create a database of the ppl who should not be allowed to own the gun rather than all the people of own gun.

I see you gone thru immigration process – doesn’t the embassy in Canada have list of ppl who are not supposed to be issued with or do they have list and details of all the Canadians living in Canada?

You tell me which makes more sense.

The database is already created. Make it public. Names and addresses. So that innocent, non-involved people know who and where the felons and crazies are. Why not? Concern for the privacy rights of felons and nuts?

I agree if the database is there share it, unfortunately current admin would be worried about the humanitarian rights of these crazies.

It's the same database being used for background checks today dude. Dam right these libs are worried about the rights of the crazies. That's how they freely walk the streets until they snap.

i don't get it.

Yeah but the guys that I'm worried about are the ones that do not and will not follow whatever laws are put in place. So, either way, you'd have a database preventing certain people from legally obtaining a gun.

Thats exactly the pro gun ppl are saying you can have million laws on the book but if they are not being enforced it is not going to solve any problem.

Those million laws are just hinderance to an ordinary person who is trying to do everything legally, unfortunately Mr President and his team have convienced certain group of ppl that they would be safer if the guns are taken away and they would do everything to make it difficult for an individual to legally obtain one.

Sweet, we agree. Laws will always be circumvented by criminals.

Now how do you start decreasing gun violence in the country? Lets not get caught up looking for the end all perfect solution. At this point, we just want to see the gun related deaths per year start decreasing in a meaningful fashion.
