Dear experienced K1 Visa Applicants,

My Fiancee and step-son (4-years old) attended St Luke's on Tuesday for Day 1 of their medicals and today went back for Day 2 which was all successful, thank GOD. After 8 hours of waiting past their schedule appointment at 10am, they called my Fiancee to the counter and advised her that she will be surrendering her passport to St Luke's as they will be forwarding it along with her medical to the US Embassy Manila. However, they returned my step-son's passport and gave her his medical results. Note that they both were given a couple shots for Vaccination during the day as well today. Below I got the their website:

-"The medical report and visa photographs are submitted by St. Luke's Medical Center Extension Clinic directly to the U.S. Embassy, with few exceptions. In most cases, only the passport, CD of Chest X-ray, and Vaccination Documentation Worksheet are given to the applicants."

1) Can anyone advise me if they had the same experience as we have had?

2) Can anyone advise me if there is an issue with them not taking my step-son's passport? Will they let him into the Embassy when we arrive for the interview the second week of May??

3) On occasions, so they give back the K2 Child's passport and and medical results to bring to the USEM the day of the Interview?

Any information on this matter would be really appreciated. My Fiancee is planning to leave Manila in the morning for her hometown, but before she leaves I want to make sure that St Luke's NOT taking my step-son's passport, but taking her's isn't something to be alarmed about.

Thank you all very much,

Sahs

Just went to SLEC last April 3rd and they on my 2nd day my passport was returned to me. April 11 was my interview date. Idk if the interview date has to play a role.

At the embassy, they checked for the appointment letter and the passports.

I am no of great help but sharing my recent experience.

Thank you, dladsyvmp... That's what has me so baffled. The K1 applicant's passport was surrendered t SLMC to be delivered to the the USEM (totally expected), but the K2's passport wasn't surrendered, but instead given back; along with the Medical Records, Vaccination and TST results and told to keep the K2 Passport.

SLEC didnt return her passport. Did she ask why?

I noticed that at the US embassy they asked for the appointment letter, the ds forms. checked thed passport with the SLEC stamp. So I'm wondering why they didnt return your fiance's passport and just your stepkid's.

off topic

i wish there's a tagging option on forums... lol

Isn't their more test done on your fiancee than the child under 15 or 17 years of age? I wonder if that has something to do with it, maybe the clinic has to review some things of your fiancee yet and the childs medical is completed?

Hope all things go smooth!

Maybe ask your fiancee to call St. Lukes. They do not need to keep the passport. St. Lukes only needs to deliver the medical results to the embassy. Your fiancee will need the passport on the interview date. The embassy personnel will ask for it upon entrance to the embassy.

The fiancee was given the shots, which is suppose to be the determining factor whether you are good to go for interview or now..

But on the USEM Website it clearly states, "The medical report, passport and visa pictures are submitted by SLMCEC to the U.S. Embassy in Manila. Only the chest x-ray film and immunization form are given to the applicants in the SLMCEC releasing section."... I was actually expecting that she would have to surrender her passport to St. Luke's. It's my step-son's passport that threw me off my track and the fact that he didn't have to surrender his...:blink::blink:

Check their website http://manila.usembassy.gov/wwwh3218.html

And look under the Subject, "What happens after I have my medical examination?"

** I just read your later posting and read the embassy link, it appears from that info that SLEC is now keeping the passports and forwarding them to the embassy.... interesting. I would be interested in hearing from others that are now doing the medical if SLEC kept their passports also. I would not worry about them not keeping the child's passport as the visa application is tied to your Fiancee's passport, just make sure to bring it to the interview

Cheers for the feedback too, Hank. That's the logic and direction that my wee mind keeps taking me into on the matter as well. I'm hoping to have a more solid understanding on this before she wakes up. If she needs to return to St. Luke's, I need to advise her the moment I chime her iPad to help get her up. :P I wonder how I can solidify the facts here and come to a sure-thing understanding on the matter. For starters, I will be calling our Immigration Lawyer in about 20 mins, but I'm not sure what he would know about the US Embassy in Manila and how they organize things between each other. I suspect another option would be to call St. Luke's myself and find out? Maybe that's what our Lawyer will do, but charge 120 p/h for his efforts..

Rgds,

Sahs

I would take what is on the embassy website as FACT, after all they make the rules. No wondering, just keep moving forward from here. Don't worry about them not keeping the K2 passport, just remember to bring it to the embassy. In my mind all is good.

Hank - FYI mate Someone else's experience... Goes down the thought you pointed out earlier...

Respondent - SLMCEC don't returned mine. they forward it to the US embassy together with my medical..

Sahs - Hmmmmm CURIOUS

Sahs - Did you happen to have a k2 derivative with you?

Sahs - Did they tell about the date of your interview and what to expect on that day without you having your Passport? Or if you already went to you interview, how did you proceed once you got to the US Embassy?

Respondent - yes and i have my appointment that time.. first in SLMCEC for medical they took my passport and after my medical they told me they will forward it to the US Embassy.. I went to the embassy 2 days after my medical for my interview..

Sahs - Thank you! Please, excuse me asking so many questions. Can you tell me what happened when you got to the Embassy? What they asked for and when you saw your passport again?

Respondent - in my interview they had already my medical and my passport..
