Can you provide a link to where you are reading this. I'm thinking it's out of context. That sounds like the exact instructions for filing an I-130, not submitting documents to NVC ....AFTER...the petition is approved.

Those are actually not the applicable instructions but you DO need the translation. Here's where to find the applicable instructions. http://georgia.usembassy.gov/iv-family.html which are... Please, note that the beneficiary will also be required to present a police certificate, with English language translation, from every country (except the U.S.) where the beneficiary has resided for more than six months since the age of 16. The certificate must be issued under all names ever used by the beneficiary.

I am aware of the police certificate requirements, and we will be providing from all countries (just two in our case).

This is the website address for the embassy instructions for interview requirements: http://photos.state.gov/libraries/georgia/538077/kharabadzem/instr-iv-eng.pdf

It's a link from this page: http://georgia.usembassy.gov/immigrant-visas.html

The NVC may not require as many have said. But if I'm reading this correctly, I'll still have to get everything translated and notarized for the embassy.

The link you're reading does not apply directly to your current situation but the one I posted does.

If by current you mean the NVC process, agreed. If you mean something else, please clarify.

Yes, I meant the NVC process. What you quoted was USCIS language regarding documents submitted with the petition, not NVC.

What I quoted was language directly from the embassy directions for what the visa applicant must bring with them to the day of the interview at the embassy. The link I provided explicitly states this.

It's fine, I really appreciate the help. Time to move on to the next item of business.

Since accurate information is critical, it will be important, moving forward that you have it and give it. No, the link you gave does not give instructions to the visa applicant about what to bring to the interview. You might find a link that takes you to such a page but it is not on that page. It's on the page I linked to. You are not taking the police report to the interview anyway. You're sending it to NVC, right?

I believe accurate information is vital as well. So help me out here. I'm not seeing what you are seeing.

At the top of the page from this link: http://photos.state.gov/libraries/georgia/538077/kharabadzem/instr-iv-eng.pdf

Is the following statement :

"After you’ve been contacted by the National Visa Center (NVC) or post with an interview date, you will bring all the following documents to the Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy in Tbilisi on the day of your interview (emphasis mine). Please read this notice thoroughly. Failure to prepare properly for the visa interview will result in a delay in processing your case."

Then, listed below this statement is a series numbers (these being the "following documents" referenced in the paragraph above) enumerating what to bring: I'll copy the two I'm referencing.

5. POLICE RECORDS FROM A FOREIGN COUNTRY: A translated and notarized Police Record from a foreign country for applicants age 16 or over, including maiden names and former married names, if the applicant is currently living in that country for more than six months, or if the applicant has previously lived in that country for more than one year, or if requested at the time of interview. For further information, please read the Police Certificates title of the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Consular Affairs web page.

8. TRANSLATIONS: Certified English translations must accompany all documents that are not in English. Translations must be certified by a competent translator and sworn before a Notary Public. All certificates must be less than 12 months old when presented on the interview date.

Folks, part of the confusion possibly arises because the instructions for people who did DCF (Direct Consular Filing, when both people live abroad) and for people who filed through a lockbox in the US (when one or both are present in the US) are different. Please make sure you are looking at the correct instructions for your filing type.

yup, I stumble across that exact problem a few times with those asking questions about them instructions.

For me (and anyone else trying to give the answers) - it's quite useful if you post the url (and not a link to the PDF document) that contains the content - then folk can vette what's what.

Just saying.

You think this is confusing? Think about India, VFS, and the shift to ustraveldocs.com website. VFS was a pain in the @ss, always ambiguous, and ustraveldocs caused even more confusion.

Vetting is a plus, is useful, helps everyone, as many times the OP has discovered NEW information. OTOH, if an OP is muddled about instructions, which set to utilize, we can usually get on the right track..

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

When going through the K-1 process my now Hubby had all of his original documents officially translated and notarized. This was 'relatively cheap' in Tbilisi.

For example his Soviet Birth Certificate 'official document package' looks like this:

All of the pages are held together by a green ribbon threaded through a hole in all the documents which is sealed to the back of the package with a sticker and a notary's seal.

Page 1 - photo copy of birth certificate document with a rectangular blue rubber stamp (in Georgian) and a round notary stamp with signature. The back side of page 1 has a series of bar codes and more information.

Page 2: Transltion from Georgian into English of the Birth Certificate. This also has an official translators stamp on it. Back side of page 2 is blank.

Page 3: Document in English and Georigan signed by a notary stating that this notary was applied to by the translator to certify the authenticity of her signature on the translation. It goes on to further state that the translator presented her certificate and he was convinced she was a capable translator and he certified the whole package for a fee of 2GEL and 36 tetri.

My Hubby got the eye rolling thing too but when he explained why, everyone was happy to help.

Good luck!!
