Orginal I-129F package destoryed

I have an interesting situation. I had my I-129F paperwork with me at work when I was laid off. After several inquiries I was able to get a few pieces of the package from them. They say the rest was destroyed. Now I understand that the original needs to be taken to the consulate by my fiancée. Does anyone have any insight into what needs to be done in a situation like this?

The company I was employed by. When I was laid off I was not allowed to retrieve my belongings. Staff at the company gather my stuff and sent it to me. I suspect they went through my desk without much care whether I got all my things or not, and then just threw the rest in the trash.

not sure why you would need a copy of the petition you submitted at the interview. they should already have this on hand (copy you mailed when you applied)at the interview. i think they are only likely to request original documents.. e.g. birth certificates, passport, .. anything notarized etc. And maybe further evidence/ documents they request that you havent already submitted.

The only thing you possibly need at the interview and for several other steps is a copy of the NOA2 (not the original) DO NOT leave things where you could be in a situation to "not retreive them" and make copies of everything. The entire I-129f petition you sent is forwarded to the consulate and they have it. I always suggest bringing a copy because things can get lost or misplaced, but it is not necessary. DO NOT confuse suggestions with requirements. Check the instructions from the consulate regarding K-1s, there are no documents from the I-129f on that list.

If you need a copy of the NOA2, then contact USCIS and see if they can get one to you. Rather than the misinformation line, I would make an infopass appointment and go to a local office. Local offices have nothing to do with processing. They CAN get copies of things for you. You WILL need a copy of the NOA2 for the adjustment of status, ROC and citizenship process.

Now that Alla is a citizen, I got rid of all the backup stuff but still kept all the notices (NOAs) from the process.

Thanks folks! I do have the originals of everything except the I-129F and the letter of intent. So I should be in pretty good shape. Thanks for directing me to the KEV-1 documents I see there is not mention of the I-129F information. So I feel much more relaxed about this.

Kiev has one of the better instructions on their site from what I've seen from other embassies. They have a PDF that lists all the requirements, what you need to do, how to get the documents they require, how to schedule the interview, etc all in one place.
