The murder case against half-Latino neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman was dealt a devastating blow Tuesday, when prosecutors acknowledged that their star witness, the 19-year old former girlfriend of the late Florida teenager Trayvon Martin, lied under oath.

The woman, who also told police she was on the phone with Martin shortly before his death, falsely testified that she was in the hospital on the day of Martin’s funeral — perhaps to garner sympathy.

“In fact, she lied,” defense attorney Don West said. Prosecutors also acknowledged her lie, but were reportedly vague about whether they would charge the woman with perjury.

The woman’s lie demonstrates another hole in the second-degree murder case against Zimmerman.

How far will her story carry water now?

How about when George Zimmerman lied about thinking TM was older than he was? Does that mean his story doesn't carry any water either?

That is the easy part to figure: GZ wants to believe he did nothing wrong, so in his mind, his is going over the scenario again and again, to make sure he did nothing wrong. That is why most experts believe the first statements given are usually more accurate than later statements - Not because memory fades, but because it is natural for a person to try and make sense of what happened, so those initial observations tend to change over time.

I guess that's why it's so hard to get a straight answer out of him. He seems so meek and timid when in court the first time, hardly the gung ho guy chasing this kid down he was portrayed in the 911 calls.

she was still the last person outside the murderer to speak to tm. and that is verified. so of course the opposition is going to try to discredit her. i suppose we'll see what her twitter and fb accounts turn up.
