Hi Everyone!!! I have a few questions for you.

1) I was wondering if you are able to get a SSN before your I-94 expires

2) can i apply for a state ID?

3) when can i apply for my driver's license?

4) Is it free to file for EAD along with AOS??

I would really appreciate your comments.

thanks.

The fact that you are married now should not have any effect on your SSN application. But, the workers are the SSA are always confused, so they might tell you that since you are married now you are on a K-3 visa. That is wrong. I also recommend applying in your maiden name so the records can match the POE records. Then once you get the number you can change the name later. For these reasons, it is better to get the SSN before you even get married, but it is still possible after marriage (as long as you have 2 weeks left on the I-94).

AOS for my husband

You can get your SSN before or after you get married, it doesn't matter. If you get it after you are married, and you tell the SSN office that, you need to make sure to let them know you still entered as a fiance and therefore your eligibility is based on that. I told the lady at our SSN office that we were married, and she said 'oh no, you can't apply for the SSN until you have your EAD...', to which I said she is eligible for the SSN based on her admittance as a K-1 visa holder. The lady doesn't know much about the immigration stuff so she told me to fill out the SSN form, she would put it in her system and see if it would 'approve her' for one. After she entered all my wife's details, the response was quick...she will get her SSN card sometime next week in the mail. She has since received her SSN card. And remember, if the person you talk to doesn't know what is going on and will be difficult with you, talk to a supervisor or go to another SSN office.
