I saw on the news, that the people who purchased them this morning, had to be escorted to their cars by the police.

**sigh** Glad to see my tax dollars hard at work :ranting:

I grew up a PC player, my brother is Battlefield player, my husband is a Counter Strike player and I'm an RPG devourer (although my machine is now #######, need to buy a new one ir order to go back to PC playing). I do own a PS2 though, and my hubby wants the XBox 360 and maybe one day the PS3 when it's cheap.

I find it insane that people slept in tents for a few days in order to get one of these. I really don't get it. But I am not into games either so I am out of the loop I guess.

no, ps3 is 499 and 599 (depending on hard drive size) and the price will not drop before i think next summer.. ps3 is still an expensive toy..

this sunday im going to best buy to get me a WII, im not going to sleep outside lol, but I'll go early.. I know there will be an ####### parent that instead of having a little bit of common sense will pay extra bucks to get in line and buy the nintendo wii.. I'ld take 500 or a little more to give my place.. lawl

Huh?

Doesn't it cost like $200? Why would someone pay $14,000 for it?

They are $600 retail

How is Battlefield 2142 anyway? I have all the other games in the series. I was wondering if it's worth purchasing.

Worth it. I'm a member of tacticalgamer.com / a really good gaming community. check it out.

Guy who works at my Walmart spent 20 hours Thursday waiting in the line at a nearby Walmart he was 14th in line. The first six in line got their Playstation the next 14 got "rainchecks" (ie slips saying as soon as they come in they will get them) he sold his rain check to a guy for $400 dollars and his cousin who was 17th in line sold his for $300 not bad for a few hours labour. As he said he was only there to put it on E-Bay if he got one and no-one knows how many will be released next shipment so the market could be flooded and everyone get one so his could be worthless then (in re-sale value)

Did anyone on here buy one? I saw people queuing up at the Gamestop at 7am when I was on my way to work yesterday.

Can't understand that sort of dedication - considering that the machine itself doesn't do a whole lot without the games to play it on, and at launch there's only a half dozen to choose from...

I would 'like' one, but $600 is silly money - not to mention the cost of next generation games has gone up from the already excessive $40 to a $60 price tag. Expensive hobby...

I remember back in in the early-to-mid 1990's, console games and PC games usually cost around $50-$60; some were as high as $70. The reason the price dropped as time went by was because hardware and game developers made the switch from cartridge and 5.25"/3.5" diskette media to CD-ROM and later DVD-ROM. The latter two were less expensive to produce, so the costs for the consumer went down. I have absolutely no clue about Blu-Ray though (or why it was chosen over HD-DVD, which I know little about as well...), which is the media format the PS3 uses.

I think Sony is shooting themselves in the foot by demanding $500 and $600 (depending on the version of PS3 you purchase) for the console and then $60 per game. Both the Microsoft Xbox 360 and the Nintendo Wii are less expensive and their games are cheaper as well. True, the PS3 might be faster and more graphically capable than either of those two, but is it really worth waiting in line for 20 hours in order to fork up $600 and then however how much money for the very small library of games it currently has at the moment.

The only game I'd be interested in purchasing on the PS3 would be Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, but one game (at the moment) doesn't cut the mustard when looking at such a hefty price tag. ;)
