Explosions reported near Boston Marathon finish line

If the bombs had gone off at the height of the marathon finish, approx. the 2 to 2 1/2 hour mark, the casualties would be much higher.

That's what I was thinking, there may have malfunctions with the timing switches which may have caused delays.

It's amazing that the death toll is so low. I was worried that when I woke up this morning, I'd check the news to see it was much worse.

I'm hoping all those with injuries pull through the best they can.

That's what Teddy and I were thinking, this had the potential to be much worse. I know most folks don't believe in religion, but I think there was some divine interventionin there somewhere.

It really is fortunate(if there is such a thing in this case), that the explosion wasn't two hours earlier. The sidewalk where the first explosion went off would have been wall to wall people.

I'm one of those folks who doesn't believe in religion.

It doesn't seem genuine to me, personally, to give divine intervention credit for there not being MORE fatalities. I don't think religion should get the credit when something 'good' happens, but not when something bad happens.

Again, those are just my feelings. At the end of the day, I'm glad whatever happened to lower the death toll happened. And I'm grateful for all the true miracle workers who were on the streets right away to gather up the injured, get them help as soon as possible, and run into a scene of absolute chaos rather than run away from it. And the doctors who are still working on saving these people.

They get the credit from me.

Or the security in that area might have been much tighter at the height of the race. At the four hour mark, the VIP's are gone and security is loosened a bit.

So does religion get credit for the legs blown off and people that died also ?

I don't think religion should get credit for anything. That's my point.

But you can't praise religion/God/divine intervention for something good happening, but not blame those same things when something bad happens. And that's usually how it goes. It doesn't make sense.

I think I was agreeing with you

Here's an update:

Authorities including bomb experts searched an apartment in Revere, Massachusetts, and removed items, after two deadly bombs struck the Boston Marathon. But officials cautioned that there are currently no clear suspects -- and the motive remains unknown.

Officials also announced a twist in the probe: Suspicious packages that were detonated out of precaution were not explosive devices after all.

After the blasts Monday, some officials reported that explosive devices that failed to go off were found. U.S. Rep. Bill Keating of Massachusetts, who serves on the Homeland Security committee, said there were two.

But Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick announced Tuesday that there were only two bombs -- the two that exploded at the marathon, killing three people and wounding 154.

Saudis interviewed

The search on the home in Revere, north of Boston, was connected to a young Saudi citizen who is visiting on a student visa and has been questioned, a law enforcement official said. So far, the official told CNN, he has not heard of anything being found connecting the person to the bombings.

The Revere Fire Department said on its Facebook page that the FBI; the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives; immigration officials, state and local police, detectives and bomb techs all took part in the search at the apartment.

The search took place with consent, so no warrant was needed, a federal law enforcement official said.

Investigators told police Monday to be on the lookout for a "darker-skinned or black male" with a possible foreign accent in connection with the marathon bombs, according to a law enforcement advisory obtained by CNN. The man was seen with a black backpack and sweatshirt and was trying to get into a restricted area about five minutes before the first explosion, the lookout notice states.

A Saudi citizen with a leg wound was under guard at a Boston hospital in connection with the bombings, but investigators cannot say whether he is involved at this time, and he is not in custody, a law enforcement source said.

A Saudi woman, a doctor, has also been interviewed, according to a law enforcement source.

Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis said many people were being questioned.

The crime scene has been reduced from 15 blocks to 12 and will be narrowed as the investigation proceeds, Davis said Tuesday.

Authorities also plan to search through videos from surveillance cameras near the attack in Boston's Copley Square. So far, no footage has been spotted showing someone placing the bombs, a law enforcement source said.

Nothing ruled out

The intelligence community is pouring through all threat reporting for any clues, U.S. counterterrorism officials told CNN.

That includes any claims made on jihadist websites.

Nothing is being dismissed this early on, the officials said.

It isn't clear Monday whether the origin of the bombings was domestic or foreign.

I agree, it was amazing that 3 died and not many more, although so many of the injuries were so horrific. I believe that a lot of loss of life was prevented because there were so many medical and emergency people already on the scene for the race - they were able to respond immediately to help those people who were critically injured (traumatic amputation, etc.) If not for that quick response, many of the injured might have bled to death.

God with all the victims and their families.

I'm not sure about al qaeda's timeline for taking credit for an attack.

It just hit me. it was Tax day.. It was Patriots day, it was Boston home of the original Tea Party.

A little off topic, but we have a company here at work who is redoing our outside signs on our building. They're inside right now working on rewiring them, and talking about conspiracy theories.

They are saying that the government bombed Boston yesterday and ... get this ... no kids actually died in Sandy Hook. It's all a show to keep us afraid.

I can't handle how stupid people are.
