Situation with F-1 visa

Hi everyone

I have a doubt:

I went to U.S as a student for 2 months in 2010 (at the age of 20) with a F-1 visa. They stapled the I-94 form in my passport but I don't remember if they put in the form how long i was able to stay! I left after finished my summer course (3 days after), the school staff told me that I had 30 days to leave the country after finish my visa. Later in the airport my flight was delayed 1 day (so, 4 days after finished the course)... when I boarded the flight, a guy from the airline took my I-94 form.

My doubt is... I overstayed? because I don't remember what they wrote in my I-94 (I don't even remember if the inmigration officer wrote something :/), I remember that my visa ended at the same time that ended my course, and I had some more days to leave the country but I heard that the important thing is what I-94 says, not when the visa expires.

Thanks a lot!

* For F-1, the I-94 will usually say "D/S" (Duration of Status). This means the actual duration of stay is governed by your I-20. I am not sure about really short duration programs like yours though; whether they will put a date in there.

* Usually for F-1, there is a 60-day grace period after your status expires, when you are still authorized to stay in the U.S.

Thanks!

Yes, now I remember, they told me 60 days.

My I-20 duration was the same as the visa... and I guess that I didin't remember the expiration date in my I-94 because it said D/S. I finished the course without problems, and I left 4 days after that.

The course was very short but every student can extend its duration. I went to a ef school (ef it's quite recognized in some non english speakers countries: http://www.ef.com/us-home/), so I'm almost sure that my I-94 was marked with D/S

So, did I overstay? I guess no, but i'm confused

you are fine... you are confusing your D/S with your actual duration of course-work (I think) but you are/should be in good standing
