Is Everyone in AOS Required to Interview?

Some of the messages here have caused me to become confused about the interview for AOS. We have completed the biometric exams and I *think* we are awaiting an interview. But it seems from some of the posts here in this forum, not everyone is scheduled to have an interview. And I have seen mention that some people schedule an InfoPass appointment because it speeds (or triggers?) the interview and GC approval process. So now this is all a hash in my mind. A few simple questions:

1) Is every AOS applicant required to go to an interview?

2) If there are exceptions to the interview, what causes the exceptions?

3) Why is there a line of reasoning that leads people to schedule InfoPass appointments?

Thanks for any clarification... we are nearing the end of the AOS process and I don't want to make any mistakes!

K-1s seem to have interviews for AoS around 50% of the time. There are benefits and drawbacks to both.

If you are going to have an interview it's usually scheduled within around 4 - 6 months.

If you aren't going to have an interview then your I-485 will remain at the service centre (usually CSC) instead of being sent to a local office, and you will just receive a green card in the mail - but this route often takes the best part of a year.

So it's a shorter wait with an interview, or a longer wait with no interview.

It seems to be completely random whether or not you get an interview when filing for AOS from a K-1. Your case will either stay at the NBC and be processed there without interview, or it will be transferred from the NBC to your local USCIS office for an interview. Those getting an interview seem to be getting approved faster than those that are approved without an interview.

People need to make an Infopass appointment for any number of reasons relating to their case. Infopass appointments do not speed up the approval time of AOS though. They are generally needed for any problems/queries someone might need taken care of for their case.
