Hi guys!

Not sure if people know this, but this is about how the do the scheduling for CR1 interviews (maybe just for Montreal).

I called yesterday to get the status on my CR1 interview at the Montreal Consulate. I'm on my 7th week waiting for the interview after aproval.

They hadn't told me this before, but seems that they do the schedules on the 2nd week of the month for the following month. In other words, last week they did the schedule for the interviews in December. And, I think if your CR1 is granted, you get your green card mailed to you within the following 3 weeks. I'm just anxious to work out here. :)

hope this was useful info for someone.

Yes from what I recall, it is sort of like that, but not quite. NVC schedules the cr-1 interviews for MTL and yes its around mid month. But they don't mail out ur green card, maybe u just had ur terminolgy incorrect, I'm sure you meant the final packet. You have to do an interview in Mtl, and there they will give you the visa that goes in ur passport that is good for 1 yr (but must be activated within 6 months) Best of luck

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

ah god. I thought I was getting my green card after the CR1 interview :(

i just need to work asap. the AOS is too expensive at this point when i have my CR1 interview soon. and filling out the employment authorization form is 180$ and i would get it in 3-4 months. again.. probably a waste of money at this point. hehe

when you activate your visa you will get your green card usually within 3 to 4 weeks but at the POE you will get a stamp in your passport that is good for a year that will act as your green card until you get the real thing...

a week or two after arriving I would advise you to go to the closet SSN office and apply for your SSN number which you should receive within a week...

After the cr-1 interview in Mtl your good to go!! The stamp in ur passport acts like ur greencard, until the actual green crad comes. But you can work asap with a CR-1 (or ir-1) You wil require a SSN and if you checked it off on the form (think ds-230) it should arrive a few weeks after you have activated the visa. If after a few weeks and no SSN, then just head down to the local SSN office and reapply. After a month mine hadn't arrived, i went down to the office and re-applied. Sorry to confuse you, I may have misread ur original post. Mtl issues the visa's the next day, or you can give them a prepaid express post envelope and they will mail it. Best of luck
