Why does Visa journey indicate to file different forms than USCIS

I'm filing for a CR1 with my husband.

Visa Journey indicates that I should file a fairly sizable package of documents (I-130, G-325a, marriage certificate, birth certificate, proof of relationship, etc).

However, USCIS indicates that we should file only form I-130.

(I would post links to the two relevant webpages, but the forum won't allow me to do so.)

I'm confused - why is there this discrepancy? And what should I do? My guess is that Visa Journey is telling you to be more thorough even though it's not required because it might make things go more smoothly?

If you send only an I-130 your package will be rejected. It has happened many times to people who show up on VJ wondering why they didn't accept the I-130 form with no evidence or supporting documents. Follow the VJ guides and include everything listed. The instructions for the I-130 on USCIS also lists many extra things that are required to be included with the I-130 it does not just state fill out and send us only an I-130 form.

Did you read all of the instructions to the I-130. It tells you pretty much the same thing.

You neglected to read the instructions for the I-130. VJ and USCIS instructions are the same.

I see, thanks for the info everyone!

Don't be tempted to "simplify" your I-130 by failing to provide proof of your bonafide relationship. We sent in only the minimum "required" documents and no proof of our bonafide marriage, and we were approved, but we didn't expect to be; we frankly knew we'd screwed up and we expected a delay and were shocked when we got through anyway. Now we're faced with having to send our supporting stuff directly to the NVC, where we hope someone will look at it.

I remember checking case status for lots of other numbers close to ours, and several said they had been sent back because they didn't include the required documents. Sometimes they'll return your fee, sometimes they won't.

LATEST STEPS:

08 Jul 2013: SSN received (at SSA office)

07 Aug 2013: Green Card received

27 Feb 2014: Whoa, life happened. Planning move "back home" together to Republic of Ireland by end of April.

29 Apr 2014: POE Dublin through Heathrow

15 May 2014: Received formal residency/work permission (GNIB card with Stamp 4, one year renewable) for the ROI

Download Form I-130 (201KB PDF)

Download Instructions for Form I-130 (83KB PDF)

Download Form G-1145, E-Notification of Application/Petition Acceptance (1KB PDF)

Additional items needed are in the instructions for both of those applications which include evidence of bona fide relationship

There is no discrepancy when you actually read the form I-130 instructions. Do that and come back again and tell us where you found a discrepancy.
