Hi VJ.... My sister just graduated from midwife scholl from my country. She would like to come to USA for a better future. Is there anyone has any info about that? Would u pls share it with me....

What is midwife training like in your country? Ie is she a home birth midwife (no work visas for that), or a fully trained nurse with a specialisation in childbirth/ infant care/ lactation consultant? If the latter, there may be the possibility of a work visa but she'd need to find a hospital tom sponsor her visa.

The U.S rarely recognizes foreign trained midwivces. They consider it as an advanced certification here and are very careful due to the potential for liability. I was trained as a widwife too in my country after my RN program. It was a 13months course. I learned I would have to go for further studies before I can be certified as one as opposed to my RN qualification that was immediately accepted and all I needed to do was take the NCLEX.

even if her training is accepted, she would need an employment visa to work here . Either an employment agency(foreign recruiters) petition for her or a hospital in dire need of a midwife files the petition. Or she finds her way under a visa that allows her to work and then pursues the career.
