Canada - Where we take our Ketchup Seriously

I was at the grocery store today buying ketchup since we had just run out. Because of this post I picked all the brands up to check the ingredients. Every single one had high fructose corn syrup except for the organic one - which was three times as expensive. In the end I just went with Heinz. Sigh.

Like the commercial once said "Gotta be KD!".

I remember the first time I called it KD to my wife. She thought I was talking about a girl named Katie.

oh and I have to mix the ketchup into the mac and cheese.

on rare occasions I will fry up some ground beef or chicken and add that with a can of diced tomatoes to a box of prepared mac and cheese. throw a little cheese on top and bake in the oven for 10 to 15 minutes. yum!

I'm not a ketchup on KD person, but a couple on my kids will with KD not the Kraft Mac and cheese that one just tastes funny.

Hmmm I thought the Canadian Kraft Dinner is the same as the Kraft Mac and Cheese down here. I love the spirals. Didn't know there was any difference.

Now I do have a friend that not only puts ketchup on it, but sauerkraut. I would actually be tempted to see what in hell that tasted like. I'm surprised they don't have a national Kraft Dinner Restaurant Chain up in Canada that has all these weird concoctions. Then again, I like mine with freshly diced habanero peppers in it. So I guess I'm not entirely normal either :)

I'm just a wanderer in the desert winds...

The difference is not that bad, but the US vs is not as good with Ketchup according to my kids. Also they won't eat it as leftover if they make too much, it's not that creamy on either day. I met a fellow Canadian here in Arkansas and she likes sauerkraut on her Kraft Dinner too. But she says it's a Newfie thing.

I don't eat that much ketchup. I only eat it on the normal stuff : fries, hotdogs, burgers.... and on some tourtières (meat pies). My fiancé saw me putting ketchup on my meat pie one day and kiddingly said to his son that it was a tradition for canadians to put ketchup on everything XD. Fast forward a few weeks. We are eating supper and his son goes and get the ketchup to put on his meal saying that he was becoming a bit a canadian. hahah laughing.gif

My ex used to cut up weiners and boil them in the water with the macaroni.

The weiner taste would be infused in the pasta. It was disgusting!

When I made KD when my kid was little I would put some warmed up frozen peas in it to make it healthier.

I tried making her the whole wheat healthier stuff not to long ago and she said on the rare occasion that we have KD she’d like the real thing.
