Got my interview

We got the notice giving me a date for my interview with the Sydney Consulate, but on reading the letter and its attachments, I have a few questions. On the advice of another forum member, I'm asking them here, because apparently it's pretty hard to get these answers from the Consulate.

1. What do I wear?

2. The letter advises that none of my family is required at the interview (even my wife, the petitioner). Should they come anyway?

I applied for and received an Australian Police Certificate some months ago and have since forwarded that to the NVC with the DS-230. But the letter I got advising of my interview says, about the Police Certificate, that "[t]he issuing police authority will send the police record directly to the appropriate US Embassy". I guess that's just wrong? Can I assume that the embassy will have the certificate I sent to the NVC?

3. From what I can see online, Australian Police Certificates expire in 12 months. So the one I got on January 30 this year will still be in force?

4. I wasn't able to get an appointment to have my medical exam until after the date of my interview. Can you have your medical after your embassy appointment? If so, how much extra time does it put on to the whole process? I believe that if all is well, you get a 'yes' or 'no' at the embassy on the day. If they have to wait to get the medical information and then make the decision, how long does it take to hear?

5. How many photos do I need to take to the embassy? All I can find online is that I should take "the appropriate number" of photos – I guess this varies with the embassy, but I can't find how many Sydney wants.

Thanks in advance for any answers anyone can supply.

Hi Toff,

With regards to the police cert, the Embassy has one from the Police and they send you one. Believe me I queried it with the Queensland Police that they might have given me the wrong thing but all is good.

Clothing: just wear business like clothing. Shirt and pants.

Your wife and daughter won't be allowed up stairs. My husband and daughter walked around he city.

Photo's: I took wedding photos but she didnt want to see them and I took two US passport photos and she took one. I had to put my full name on the back of it.

Medical : I have no clue about after the interview

Hope that helps

M.
