Background checks are for USC and they include:

1. Name

2. Criminal

3. Citizenship

4. Marriages

5. Divorces

6. Proof of current marriage

so maybe my last marriage and divorce are hard to verify since they weren't done in the US.

I just asked a friend who has over 4000 friends on Facebook to sign the petition and ask all of her friends to sign it too. That should get some action. She plays mafia wars ( yea, she's addicted) and she has tons of FB friends all over the world. https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/give-us-citizen-i-130-i-129f-petitions-proper-priority/FxWZpJFF

Too bad the petition is written in such a way that 90% of the population won't understand it. Who the hell knew what and I-130 or I-129F were before they got into this nightmare???!!!!! The wording was plagiarized from my letter to the USCIS on the Idea Community thing (Which I wouldn't mind at all, if it had been used in an appropriate context), but that letter was written TO the USCIS ITSELF, so I was free to be wonky, this if for regular people so it needs to be easily understandable. No one knows or cares what and I-129F is, people just need to be told that the government is ripping US citizen families apart while letting illegals stay by the millions. Absolutely no consideration went into that, I would like to post another more easily consumable petition but I am afraid it will take away from this one. I must say whoever did that needs to stop to think things out from another perspective before they do sh!t like this.

Is it really true that senator and congressional inquiries slow the case down? I don't know how it would all they are doing is asking what the status of the case is.

Oh because since October I have had a senator inquire once and the congressman 3 times.

If they (USCIS) did their job properly in the first place, they wouldn't be getting as many congressional inquiries. :)

my lawyer said uscis told lawyers association that congressional inquiries slow them down, but who else can hold them accountable?

I have a good friend who works for USCIS in a seperate division (sorry!). Their part of USCIS actually has to call the normal line to get updates on cases just like us. But anyway, when I was speaking to her she said that "a well placed 'congressional' as the calls from members of congress are called are definitely taken into account and generally paid better attention to by the staff at the centers than normal in-time inquiries. There is actually specific staff that deal with the staff of a congressman or senators to call."

That being said she stressed that you have to be strategic with your inquiries. She suggested that when I wanted a staff member to make a inquiry on my behalf it might make sense to take a few hours out of work and actually go to your congressman's office and meet with a member of staff. Tell them my story, show pictures, explain how great an American you I am and how much I love my spouse and how hard it is to be apart from her. (I would imagine if you are anywhere near as emotional about missing your spouse as I am you should have no problem showing how sincere you are.)

Getting a face to face with a staff member (often part of the Community Engagement Staff as many congressman's offices call them) with a name and a story gives them something more than just a voice on the phone. It also connects you two. It's a lot harder to tell a person that you've met bad news than it is to tell a random person they've never met over email or the phone. That connection alone sometimes means they'll go to bat for you and your case just that little bit you might need to get noticed.

Again this might all be hearsay but it makes sense when you think about it. I will mention that I was literally ready to go to my congressman's office using this very plan the next day when I received my "change of name" notice and was approved the next day. I still plan on going over to the congressman's office to speak to the staff on the behalf everyone that is still waiting for their NOA2.

Remember, while it's hard to sometimes believe that those in congress actually care; the ability to do something proactive and helpful for an "active" district member that would show up at their offices is often a very powerful thing when these guys run for reelection.

Pro-tip: Never hurts to tell them (or pretend) that you're an active member of the same political party as the member of congress. Those are additional brownie points! Just a word of warning however, you will most likely be put on their mailing list. But that's a small price to pay for getting your spouse here sooner than later!
