Question for others filing with Japanese wives: What are your plans regarding the police certificate process for NVC? I'm dreading this as it takes 2-3 months if your wife is not in Japan to go through a consulate.

IF the police Certificate is valid for 6 months ... if I were you, I would try to get it now or I would have started the process weeks ago.

Yeah, I would file for it now. No guarantees that you won't have to get another one, but when you get your approval, hopefully your certificate will still be good at that point.

We didn't get a police certificate because there was a bunch of outdated information online where it states that the Consulate will get it for us. I contacted them directly to ask about it, and they responded immediately and pointed me in the right direction for my husband to request it. So we did, and now we're waiting to get it from the Dutch Government. That's okay, because we'll probably be waiting a while to get to that point with the NVC.

HAHAHA, your kids got approvals. Were their petitions based on your marriage to their parent? Seriously, as soon as you get that RFE, I'd write an email detailing the situation to the Ombudsman.

I'm not sure what you mean. Your wife is not in Japan but you're going through a Japanese Consulate?

We live in Canada while waiting for the green card. We are not in Japan.

I would have applied for the police certificate long ago however the Japanese government does not issue a certificate without an authorization letter from the US Government. We cannot apply for it without approval of the I-130.

Hence why I asked specifically for those with Japanese wives.

To request a police certificate, Japanese applicants will need:

  • U.S. Embassy dated "Immigrant Visa Instructions" or request for a police certificate. If you have an I-130 petition with NVC in the U.S. and received DS-3032(Choice of Address and Agent), NVC will send an applicant or agent the instruction package. Please follow the instruction by NVC.

DId you get a response of some sort? We tried to send an email to CSC and all we got was an automated response that it's for followup and you won't hear back unless you had a service request filed before and had put in service request number...

well hoping to get some answers soon one way or other. Started involving senator's office to look into it. Maybe we are stuck in some sort of background checks? It makes no sense why they just leave behind files and forget them.

04/12/2014 - Received transfer notice in mail stating file transferred from Nebraska to NBC Lee Summit, Montana (so disappointed as I thought it was at local office now).
04/14/2014- emailed Nebraska and scopscata to see what's going on with file due to conflicting info I've gotten and NBC doesn't even show processing I485.
04/14/2014- Got response from scopscata saying will look into email, forward to resolution team.
04/14/2014- I485 updated to "485 was transferred and is now being processed at USCIS office"
04/25/2014- Text message and case update online "testing and interview" stage.
05/06/2014- Text message and case update online with interview date of June 11, 2014.
06/05/2014-Notice sent by NYC acting district director/office that interview date is Aug 21, 2014.....??????????? No change online
06/11/2014 - Interview for AOS. I130 was already attached. Approved and got passport stamped. YAY. Thank God.
06/19/2014 - Case updated online with text and email saying new card mailed.....

06/21/2014-Condtional GC received along with welcome letter.

I also sent an email last month in December. I am not sure if it helped, I requested an expedite due to the political turmoil in Bangladesh, I was not granted and expedite but I got approval.

Yeah maybe you should contact the senator, mine didn't help me, although some of them do help out. I am not sure if it is background check, that's what they say, but...I am doubtful.

I am not sure but it may be similar for what I had to do for Bangladesh Visa. I have am a US citizen so I need a visa to travel to Bangladesh, although since my husband has a nationality of Bangladesh, I can show his relationship to me and get what is called a NOVISA stamp. This allows me to enter Bangladesh an unlimited number of times til my passport expires. If your wife has previous Pakistani passport, you can show that and she can probably get unlimited visa to Pakistan. I was born in the US so I had no Bangladeshi Passport and had to use my husbands nationality.
