So my husband went along to the Johannesburg USCIS field office at the South African embassy to submit his petition yesterday and our long wait began. Fortunately he lives here, so we will go through the wait together.

Interestingly, the official that received his submission gave him a mini on the spot interview - questions about how we met, when we got engaged, where we got married, why we got married in the US and not here, how many times we saw each/visited other before we got married (as he leafed through his and my passport) what he does for a living, what I do for a living, how long he has lived here, why he lives, why he now wants to go back to the US etc. I should think that after that grilling, they can may as well skip my interview altogether as I think they have all the information they need!

The official also handed back a few pieces of evidence that we had included as part of our packet. I had pulled the supporting documents together for submission as guided by VJ, and I guess the he felt that he had more than enough evidence and retained what he needed.

All in all, thank you VJ for the extremely useful tips and discussions found on this fantastic website.

Anyway good luck to us all April people! God Bless us all.

PS - I'm sorry if you see this post somewhere else under the IR-1/CR-1 case filing and progress reports forum...I posted it in the wrong section the first time I tried...newbie blues...so embarrassed.

Congrats and what a story lol. Seems you added too much supporting docs :). Whoever reads my support docs hopefully would feel the same. You are a DCF so you should have a much faster turnaround. Keep us April filers involved.

We filed in April... NOA1 April12.....

I am trying to find out as much as possible about the MSC numbers.... ANY NEW INFO would be apprciated ! Everyone is going back and forth about the cases staying at the NBC or getting transferred to the local offices... I entered NBC on my timeline and the processing time is significantly less than VSC. ( which makes me very hopeful :) ) But of course there is always the chance that our file could get transferred.

This may be a silly question but......

Does anyone know if they separate the cases that use attorneys and whether or not those case get transferred?

attourneys have no bearing in the routing of your 130.. most are transferred to a local office in 1.5-2.5 months .. the nbc timeline on vj is unreliable. your approval will depend on the volume at your local office IF it goes there.. you will only find out by calling and speaking with an IO about your case and its transfer, but you are best doing that around two months. approvals are running 2-who knows how many months.. good luck!

Hi All,

I wanna double check to make sure that this forum is for standalone I-130 (spouse overseas). Is that correct? (I will be filing in May for my Canadian husband. So I will be reading your posts regularly to learn.)

Thank you all!

Hey fellow tico filer!! I filed I130 for my tico husband in March. smile.gif

HEY ! ! !

We were able to get our papers together and file only a month after we were married. We are using an immigration attorney. What a pain in the butt it was to get somene to translate and certify the translations. My husbands passport was expiring, so he renewed it and emailed that so I could include it in the package.

I sent my husband to the registry 10 days after we got married because I saw on the online registry that the marriage was registered. He text'd me as soon as he got it and then he fedex'd them to me that day.

Who knows how this ride will go. I'm hoping for a fast approval. ( aren't we all?)

I'm flying to CR in May to spend a week with my husband and his amazing family...
