Don't be fooled into thinking that just because you used the USCIS Change of Address

online tool that your address has actually been changed in the USCIS "system".

Although logically you would think that it would.

Here's the quick story - On 8/29/2012 I submitted a COA online. On 1/28/2013 an RFE was issued on my K1 petition. The RFE was sent to the OLD address and the US Postal Service forwarded the mail (thankfully!) causing a few extra days delay. I called USCIS on 2/11/2012: Q: "Do you have my new address?" A: "Oh yes, we see that in the system". Yeah, Right!!!

Today, while opening a service request because it's been 60 days since they got my RFE reply and they haven't answered, I asked what address that had in the "system". They confirmed it was my old address.

They claimed first that "somebody made a mistake" then second that the online COA database is different than the "other database" and that my new address "might" be in my file.

So, what's the purpose of having an online tool to submit a COA if it doesn't actually update the "system"?

Answer: None, the normal rules of logic don't apply to USCIS. My advice, if you submit a COA call them and confirm it with them.

Oh, and now on top of the max 60 day wait for RFE response, I need to wait 15 days for them to process the service request. That's 15 BUSINESS days folks - yeah, 3 more weeks I can't wait to wait some more!!

Sigh.
