Brutality in Saudi

Your view on how rape is punished in the U.S. is rosy to say the least. I was raped and beaten when I was in college and I did all the right things, went through painful medical exams, testified to the police, to the court, and the ####### was acquitted after my university went to bat for him (he was a charity case for them and they even dedicated a scholarship program in his name) and threatened to expel me for making up lies (bruises all over my body - lies??). I never wanted to believe the ADA on my case [who was always offering to cut him a plea deal] when he said the fake portrait his defense was painting about me being unstable was apparently believable enough. And this all occurred in New England - supposedly the bastion of liberal freedom in our country. Thankfully I had my fiance (who was not my fiance yet) and friends there to help me pick up the pieces. Can you fathom what restraint it took for my fiance (my then boyfriend) to watch and not kill this guy as he walked around and lived freely on campus after brutalizing me? And people say Arabs are out of control with anger. The prospect of prison rape also wasn't appealing to him...

Saudi Arabia is probably the biggest hell hole on Earth, even according to many average Saudis. I have been there, I would know. Money doesn't make you civilized. In fact, in KSA, corruption is their real religion. I don't see why you think this somehow tells us something about all of Islam, a religion practiced by over 1 billion people. Just because they lay claim to Mecca doesn't mean Muslims in the rest of the world give two sh*ts about the kraaaaaazy kingdom or it's laws. Saudis are the butt of many jokes, especially in other Gulf countries. And FYI such laws are rarely applied if a "criminal" is rich and well connected. Lots of women in KSA commit adultery and have children out of wedlock. Very rarely is this punished. You may find victims of crimes getting punished because the perpetrator's family bribes corrupt officials and the court. Maybe this was what occurred in that case you mentioned years ago. Western news sources are very careful about what they say and don't say about Saudi Arabia. You will never hear the whole story.

So very sorry for what you went through :crying:

Because no one has relentlessly spammed it with off-topic responses until a mod can say "oh look it's gone off topic so let's close it."

Really?? I lived in Kuwait for 5 years, and the child born out of wedlock thing was not tolerated at all, even among western women. I had several friends who got pregnant, and then either left the country or quickly married. I even had one friend who, upon returning to Kuwait from a trip, was pulled aside and questioned for 2 hours because she was pregnant and didn't have a wedding ring on.

A Kuwaitii (or other Arab woman in Kuwait) woman giving birth out of wedlock would be almost unfathomable to me. I never heard about it, saw it, or even spoke to anyone who experienced it. I'm sure it happens some, but from my experience, it seemed it would be extremely rare.

The attack is broader than that. May have escaped you but it sure didn't escape me.

Why bring Sharia and the Koran into this "report" if it is not about those evil moosleems and their religion?

So tell me why discussing hard line fundamentalist Islamic practices is such a taboo subject. The brutal oppression and absolute disregard of human rights in that country is a very well known fact. -Fact

Yes I get that is not all Islamic countries anymore than hard line Pentecostals represent all Christians.

Why is this thread still open?

I am curious. I was told if I wanted to talk about Saudi brutality to start my own thread. i did .

I am shocked we have been allowed to have an honest debate about religious oppression in of all places a politics and religion forum

Why do you keep claiming that it's somehow "taboo" to criticize Saudia Arabia's government or legal system, or oppression or disregard of human rights ?

The problem with many of your posts (the thing that gets you in trouble) is that you go way beyond that - you continually insist or insinuate that just about any problem in the Muslim world is because of Islam. But you haven't even read Qur'an, much less studied how it's interpreted by various Islamic scholars.

This is the intellectual equivalent of claiming that child abuse occurs in Christian countries because of Christianity and using stuff like Proverbs 13:24 to "prove" it.

So tell me then. What is the basis for so much of the oppression in Saudi. We are back. To. All Saudi law is based on what

Yet another example of Proverbs 26:11.

I would actually not have commented on how things are in Saudi except, as I said, we lived there several years. So what you say is common we really did not see nor did I hear of these things. All of my colleagues were Saudi and we continue to stay in touch.

So: Either you saw and experienced something that we missed over a time period of years (and Ima ask you for a few examples) OR you are doing what all the Gulf countries do back and forth - actually accusing "Saudis" of the same nonsense and terrible behaviors that Saudis accuse people who share a different version of their religion and not because you know any Saudis or have spent time with any Saudis or know anything about Saudi families and how they conduct themselves. If you are doing this then I will comment that after a lot of time in the neighboring countries both of ya are wrong about each other. Just sayin'.

Saudi isn't a paradise by any means. IF you wish to live quietly and safely with your family and children and do not wish to be involved in drinking or gambling or hookers or partying or screwing around with whoever you want to then you will do well there. If you cannot stand to live without those things then I would guess that Saudi could be considered a hell on earth.

So those who do consider it so are quietly defined, noted, and identified. LOL

i don't get it.

On a reading of the Koran that would be the equivalent of the Westboro Baptist Church's reading of the Bible?

and thank God that the morons from the westboro baptist church are not running a whole country....

And away he goes again.

Yet another example of Proverbs 26:11.

You maintain that the brutality and oppression in Saudi is not connected to fundamentalist Islam . I keep asking you one simple question. What is the law based on there.
