Hi all, Just wonderin when i should apply for my police check, got the NOA2 by email on 13th november. And do i have to go to my local station for a form or is there a place online i can do it...cheers. Hayley

ASAP!!!! They have 40 days from when they receive it to respond. The form you want is a Subject Access form, SA1. Your local nick should be able to help you but it should also be on you local constabulary's website, somewhere!

I was a bit too efficient with mine. I requested it after my NOA1 but then we ended up with an RFE which delayed us a month. I had to rrequest another after my NOA2 because I realised it would be more than 3 months old by the time I got my interview. It took them 38 days to do it and arrived 4 days before my interview.

It can take up to 40 days to get it back...so best to do it right away...and to my knowledge the report lasts for a year. Best to get the form from your local police station....

Yeah 40 days it took to get mine through the post and my local nick were about as much use as a chocolate teapot. She gave me a number to call which was no help becuase they told me to go to my local nick and then eventually I just went to the website and downloaded the form. I just searched for police certificate on google.

Mine actually took about 45 days. The first one got lost in the post so I had to request they resend it to me. They really do take around 35-40 days, so I'd do it ASAP.

If you do get it from the police station, make sure you definitely have the right form (I could give the code that's on mine, but I think that number only applies to the Metropolitan Police, so will be different depending on where you live) - I asked for a subject access form, and explained what I wanted it for, and (to my great surprise) the policewoman on the desk seemed to know exactly what I was talking about. I was halfway home before I spotted the small print buried halfway down the instructions that said something to the effect of 'this is NOT the form to be used in connection with visa applications, etc - please request form (whatever) for a list of prosecutions, convictions and cautions'. I went back to the police station and (after much rummaging around in filing cabinets) she found the form I needed.

I sent off for mine a couple of days ago... so the same thing is almost guaranteed to happen to me. Sigh...

So, it has to be less than three months old on the day of your interview, then? Ugh, I've been reading up on this stuff forever and seem to have missed that part - and the Embassy website is mysteriously down at the moment, so can't check on there. There's no mention of that on all the stuff I've printed out from the site, only that it's valid for a year.

Just print off the form in the link I gave you. You need to print out the Police National Computer form 3019b.

Post it off to the address on the form. Sorted.

Incidentally, it took 2 weeks for them to send me a receipt for the form. The 40 days start from THIS date, not the date you post it. So, in matter of fact the form CAN take up to two and half months to arrive.

I posted mine off in June...I got it at the end of August.

I also thought the cert was valid for a year....

Thank everyone, well ive sent my daughters boyfriend into the nearest manned station to get the form(as he lives close by it), told him which one to ask for so fingers crossed he comes back with the right one. Would be so much easier to d/l the form but my printer is knackered

Oh ####### , ive just noticed that you have to send ID with your current address on, my passport has my old add on still and i have nothing else with photo ID.Wonder how long thats gonna take to change.

I don't think they need photo ID (do they?)... I didn't want to send my passport off so I sent my NHS card (you know, the one they send you when you register with a new GP) - from the notes that came with the form, it sounds as though that'll be acceptable. It says they need ID with name, current address and date of birth.... which makes me wonder why they list passports as acceptable ID, as my passport hasn't got my address on it anywhere! (Does anyone's?!)

ah i just assumed it did, well if i could find my passport i could look, but im just back from the states and i cant find it anywhere, looks like today isnt a good one for me.

I just rang norfolk police about a police cert for a visa and got put thru to the data protection act switch board, she told me i have to ask for a data protection act form at the station and not an SA1 form, anyone know if this is right? I dont want to send the wrong form in.
