You did not indicate what petition you want to file.

Here is the K1 guide.

http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1guide

Here is the CR1/IR1 guide.

http://www.visajourney.com/content/i130guide1

If you have a couple of thousand dollars to spare you can hire a lawyer but be careful, some attorneys can mess you up.

You do not need an attorney but need to spend lots of time reading.

This is a self help forum where you read, study and study some more and then ask particular questions to the membership

if you still don't understand it.

Take the guide paragraph by paragraph until you understand it, in small bites one at a time otherwise you will feel overwhelmed.

Take an extra months or two to file until it becomes clear.

If I would tell you step by step I would just be repeating the guides.

If you are filing a CR1 and want to know what to do when you reach the NVC here is a very good thread (for later!):

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/412212-nvc-filers-february-2013/

Check the forms you need, familiarize yourself with them, then proceed on how to add other documentation and relationship evidence and finally how to assemble your packet. Come back and ask specific questions. After you have filled out the forms check them 3 times to make sure you have everything correct. Sleep on it and repeat.

Faith, you can do it. It seems overwhelming but if I can navigate it then you can.

Just clear your mind, read the guides (links posted for you).

I agree with Gowon  Be patient and focus. Keep in mind this process is detail oriented and you will need to give it time and not expect things to happen overnight. Some of us have been in this VJ for over four years. :bonk: Take it one step at a time and one day at a time.....one day this all will be a distant memory...Thank God!

We are here to help you get through this.

Hiring an attorney is optional. If you feel that you can't handle the process and its many aspects then I would say then consult with some and then see what you think?

Yes a lot goes into this visa process. It is not impossible with the help of VJ and its knowledgeable members. We have learned through our trials and errors and can give you facts. Ultimately, it is your choice whether to do this on your own or with an attorney.

Good luck
