after a long and ridiculous 8 months in the us process, i am considering going back to australia to restart a dcf because i think it will be way quicker...

my question is...we originally asked for the information packet in february of this year when we were trying to decide where to file and it is dated to that effect...can i still use that one or should i request a new one? (assuming i choose to do this)

another question is..should i do this?! you can see my first post at http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=42421

the last question is, does anyone know if the wait for the interview in sydney is the same regardless of whether it is a dcf or a US filing?

thanks again everybody for all of your help!

I sent you a PM but the guist of things is, yes you can do DCF and yes I dont see why you cant use the package that you have been sent......others have and it will also save you some time as you will be able to file the I-130 on a walk-in, have it approved, and then submit the DS-230, DS-2001 that you are ready for an interview. You would need to schedule a medical appointment also and get the police certificate ready in hand. I'm not 100% on what the timeframe would be for an interview but I'm sure someone will know how long its taking sydney at the moment. All up you can realistically complete this in a couple of months, visa in hand.... especially if you have the packet already. Someone will correct me there if I'm wrong.

Considering that you are still waiting for approval of the I-130, in my opinion DCF is a viable option for you.

Hi queromare

Sorry to hear things have been taking so long for you. It sounds like DCF would be a great option for you, especially given you already received packet 3 from the Sydney Consulate.

I just received my visa doing DCF in Sydney (got to the US two days ago -- hooray!). I've written about it in the Australia DCF post that Kath has linked, and there's also a heap of information in this thread too: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=16120 (sorry for the ugly link, still haven't learnt how to do it nicely  ).

Like you if you decide to go the DCF route, we were also in the "in-between" phase, as we'd received packet 3 before they made the new changes. You can see my timeline below about how long things took. We were very organized with all our documents, and made sure I'd got my medical and police check done before my hubby filed the I-130. On the day he filed the I-130, he also filed the I-864, and I filed the DS-230 parts 1 and 2 and the DS-2001. I got my interview date that day -- two and a half weeks later. I should point out that we were first told that it would take about 1 month to get an interview, but because we were so organized and the woman seemed to like us, she said she'd squeeze me in earlier (so organization really is key!).

Hope this helps, and let us know if you've got any more questions.

30 June 2006 - received packet 3 from Sydney Consulate to do DCF

21 September 2006 - receive police check from AFP

23 September 2006 - wedding day!

12 October 2006 - hubby files I-130 in Sydney during Thursday walk-in (and I-864). I file DS-230 parts 1 and 2, and DS-2001.

31 October 2006 - interview date... and I'm approved!

1 November 2006 - pick-up visa from Sydney Consulate

14 November 2006 - arrive in the US!

22 November 2006 - greencard arrives in mail
