Hello all! Just wanting some advice on using assets for I-864, as my wife (USC) lives with me in Vancouver and hasn't been working for last 2yrs (she's written a book and currently looking for agents). Our file was received by NVC on Apr 1 but nothing received from them yet.

I'm trying to get all my docs/info together, so I have some questions about the I-864: we'll be relying on assets but I've read some posts about it and people seem to indicate assets have to be in an account. However, on top of savings and checking accounts, I-864 also asks for real estate and investment net values. If I use all 3 sources, then we are more than 3 times poverty line.

So anyone here rely solely on assets AND was able to use real estate and investments? I just want to make sure I don't come to the interview assuming this is fine, then tell tell me that I'll need a joint sponsor, as I don't want any delays. Thanks.

We used a home in the USA and savings; keep in mind that if you use assets only, they tend to want you to be very comfortably over the x3 guideline, not just scraping by.

Many embassies want assets to be US based, are yours in Canada or the USA?
