Hello All

like alot of others i do not know anything about immigration and how iy works and this is my very first thread, I am from Morocco. I met my wife 2 and half years ago on an online website. It started as overseas friends but since then we have become married … we have been married for 7 months now. We live in another country, not Morocco and definitely not the US (due to my wife’s work). We filed the i-130 along with G 1145 on March 24 since the country where we live doesn’t have a USCIS office we had to send it directly to Chicago Lockbox. On March 30th the process started and on April 4th the check was cashed , and to date have not been notified of the receipt of our application. We called on April 4th to obtain a receipt number ( I have been reading a lot on this matter so I know that you should receive a Number )and an agent from USCIS told us to wait 10 days from the day the check was cashed and he mentioned that usually the receipt number is always on the check that the applicant send that means the 9 of April , then we checked our bank account to see the number on the check we realize that USCIS cashed the check electronically without submitting the check, so there is no way we can find that number on the check, so we called again on April 9 and then another agent told us “ ohh no you have to wait 30 days from the day the check was cashed “ now we are a little bit confused?

What I want to know now how long it will take them to send that email to us?

Did you put your foreign address on the I-130? If that's the case, there's a possibility you won't get an NOA1. It's a hit or miss kind of thing with living abroad - I never received any correspondence through snail mail, while others do. Since you sent the G1145, I'd give it a week or so. If you still haven't heard anything via email, call and request to speak to a Tier 2 rep. good.gif

due to her work (government) our address is a state side address, if we receive anything it goes first to the state address and then shipped to us and usually it takes around 1 week or so, i just want to know the reason why you add the G-1145 is to be notified either by text or email right ?

we didn't get neither, can they retrieve the receipt number by looking up the name ?

Yep. I didn't get a hard copy NOA1, and hadn't sent the G1145 to go email updates, so I had to call USCIS to give our names, and they gave me the receipt number.

my wife just called USCIS and asked for a tier 2 and after spending nearly 45 minutes waiting, he asked information about the petitioner to verify it's you ...lol he finally gave us the receipt number which feels awesome knowing we made some progress, when i go to the website and check the number he gave me it shows that it's invalid , while talking to him i checked it again and asked him what is wrong and he said give it a couple of days since the website is not updated like their system is

As long as you have the receipt number, I wouldn't worry about the website updates. There are people whose cases are never visible online, or can only be seen after they're approved. Just call in every once in a while to see how things are going. Congrats on getting some progress! good.gif

Maybe once every two weeks, especially since you just started the process and still have quite a wait ahead of you. Keep checking the online database, too - you never know, they might up date it within the next few weeks so you can just check up on stuff online!

Don't worry about the receipt number not showing up on the website. For ours, it took over a month before they entered it into their website system.

Just be patient because that's the number one and about the ONLY thing that sticks out in this journey that I've learned so far.

Do not expect instant results from a government agency as big as them. Expect longer than they quote or you will surely be disappointed. Also, don't expect any logical or sequential order either because that will drive you mad too; for example, when you see others who filed later and they get approved before the ones that were filed many months before. There is no rhyme or reason, just patience!

Best wishes and good luck!

Thanks so much for your encouragement.

Considering my wife works for the government, we have a fairly good understanding of the ups and downs of the waiting game!

We will be patient as this process rolls along.

Good luck to you as well!
