Yes I don't completely agree with that one, however I am not sure a 14 or 15 year old should be able to make that kind of decision without some oversight.. Kind of a tuff one to call.

I agree, the Aspirin thing is absurd.

It depends on the 14 or 15 year old. And the parents.

I know if I had gotten pregnant at 14 or 15 and wanted an abortion, I'd have talked to my parents about it. But my parents are reasonable people who trusted me to make my own decisions and were generally supportive of what I wanted, whether they technically agreed or not.

Some parents would force the teenager to keep the baby against her wishes, give it up for adoption against her wishes, etc. Sometimes the parents could make an already difficult situation much worse.

Cant have any medication in your possession at school. Has to be checked in with the nurse. Suspending the kid is a way to punish the parents as well. It happened to my sister's kid. There was nothing she could do about it.

with as many kids that are on medication, going through the nurse is the only way the school can protect itself from getting sued.

It's not about the two being comparable. The point is that taking aspirin and going on a field trip are relatively minor decisions that probably don't have long-term or serious consequences. The same can't be said of abortion. Why if a person is deemed capable of making major life changing decisions without parental consultation do they need permission to take aspirin?

Exactly. "They aren't comparable, but let's compare them!" doesn't make sense.

Schools have to protect themselves in case anything happens to a student.

It's not that a 14 or 15 year old needs permission to take Aspirin. They just need permission to bring it onto school property and take it. Again, the school protecting itself.

We aren't talking about "parental consultation" here, we're talking about PERMISSION. Sex in general can be a life changing decision. You don't need a permission slip to start doing it.
