Hello Everyone. How are you doing? My wife came to the USCIS on K-1 Visa. We got married last April 2012, after did all of the proper steps and then sent in the AOS application. We have been waiting for about 9 months mostly due to her case being transfered to CSC. Since it was taking so long we contact our Congressman here who made contact with USCIS for us. The Congressman's worker told us that an officer has my wife's I-485 application on his/her desk and will send us a notice of action within 45 days. We received this info about a week ago. Well today I checked the USCIS Website to see if the case status has been changed yet and it has been. It has been changed to decision which states:

"Decision

On April 9, 2013, we mailed you a notice that we had registered this customer's new permanent resident status. Please follow any instructions on the notice. Your new permanent resident card should be mailed within 60 days following this registration or after you complete any ADIT processing referred to in the welcome notice, whichever is later. If you move before receiving your card, please call our customer service center at 1-800-375-5283.

During this step the formal decision (approved/denied) is written and the decision notice is mailed and/or emailed to the applicant/petitioner. You can use our current processing time to gauge when you can expect to receive a final decision."

So anyways, I was wondering if someone who has experienced this case update before to help explain to me exactly what it means. It appears that she will get her greencard, but it seems that she possibly has to do something first. Could you please help us understand? Thanks for your help.

Mike

Thanks everyone. We have been waiting for a long time for the AOS to be completed, so we are happy to get the good news. But still the journey is not over since two years from now we'll need to remove conditions. Then after that citizenship. Just needed the greencard soon since we will be leaving the US for at least 5 months or so to visit my wife's family who she has not seen in a while. We also have a newborn baby boy who they are dying to see and spoil. My wife has advanced parole, but we didn't want to be out of the country when the greencard would be mailed to us or if we got an RFE that we needed to deal with or something else. Thanks again and good luck with everything.

The downside to no interview was that we had to wait over 9 months for it to be processed. From what I have heard when you have an interview it takes only 4 to 5 months to have the AOS processed. But at the same time we are lucky since we are both together here in the US. Being apart for a year like everyone else has to go through during the first part of the K-1 Visa processing is tough.

Way to be! Be sure and be hanging out by the mailbox.

Absolutely. I've been checking for the last 9 months always hoping to see it, but now we know for sure that it will be soon.

Yes, your absolutely right. I checked my wife online status yesterday and it changed to Greencard/document Production. There's even a tracking number for the postal service which I like so we can track it to get an idea when it will arrive.
